Rand Paul to Mike Enzi: ‘I’ll do anything I can’ (To help defeat Liz Cheney)
POLITICO ^ | 07/18/2013 | Hadas Gold

Rand Paul is formally endorsing Sen. Mike Enzi as he faces Liz Cheney in a Wyoming GOP primary next year, Paul told POLITICO in an interview Wednesday.

“I’ve told him I’ll do anything I can to help him,” the Kentucky GOP senator said. “In fact, somebody asked me today if they could use my name, and I said I’d be happy to sign on and do a fundraiser for him.”

Paul said he isn’t sure why Cheney decided to challenge Enzi, but said she might end up picking up some grudges for doing so.

“I don’t think it probably will be helpful in the long run. I’m pretty sure Senator Enzi will be able to hold off against any primary challenge,” Paul said. “In doing so there will be some people that won’t be so happy with the primary challenge, that might bear grudges.” Cheney, 46, is the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney and launched her campaign Tuesday with a video calling for a “new generation of leaders to step up to the plate.”

Although she has deep pockets, her lack of deep roots in the state might hurt her. Cheney spent time in Wyoming as a child, but hasn’t spent much time there since. She moved her family from Virginia to Jackson Hole last year.

Paul said it will be difficult for “someone new” to the state to create the same type of deep personal relationship Enzi has.

“Mike Enzi has probably been to every town in Wyoming.

He’s the kind of guy who spends the time to get to know people in a town of 600 people, he’s been there,” Paul said.

Wyoming politics are, uh, odd.

The best people don’t rise to the surface. The GOP machine is strong in the state, and they back some very milquetoast candidates.

Our Congressional delegation is good, but not great.

The problem is that the GOP power brokers are in Cheyenne (where most of the state’s productive population doesn’t live and doesn’t visit) and Jackson (ditto).

Wyoming can. People better than this do run.

And then the GOP machine (both in state and in DC) starts gearing up, and the better people get shoved aside by backroom deals and outside money.

I know Levin is a stalwart conservative guy, but Levin, like most other urbanites, doesn’t know jack about Wyoming’s issues with the feds.

I’m 100% certain that if I sat both Enzi and Liz Cheney down and fired a battery of questions about natural resources, wolf predation, hunting access, irrigation water rights, mineral rights, etc at them... Enzi would ace the test and Cheney would utterly fail.

I wonder which one is more pro-life.

The main concern for Cheney is RON Paul, the father. No two men were ever more at odds on foreign policy than those two. As Rand entered the arena and made a big move for the Senate, Cheney believed him to be the same kind of threat his father was on the same issues.

I myself totally disagree with Ron Paul on FP. I’m agnostic on where Rand actually stands on some of those issues. He doesn’t emote and grandstand about it like Ron but I’m still wait-and-see on it.

From what I read in another article (I can't remember which one), she says she's running because Enzi is to quiet and doesn't challenge Senate democrats. He may vote mostly conservative, but doesn't stand up for and lead on conservative issues. Just what I read, don't kill the messenger.

Obviously she must think she has no chance in VA. This may sound “out there” but I wonder even more about Dick Cheney's health. Does he think this upcoming election may be the last he could help her? I don't think the Cheney name will mean as much in WY after he passes.

Enzi also said Cheney said she wouldn't run if he did, but in an interview last week said he hadn't spoken to her about it.

Spot on. Cheney must lose to Enzi or she can run in Virginia. We can beat the Internet sales tax.

I heard Levin throw support to Cheney on his radio program a couple nites ago.

Altho I believe he refered to her as a solid conservative, from what I heard, he seemed to be doing so because he is tired of the low turnover in the House and Senate, and his frustration with the GOP establishment’s continual endorsement of RINOs and limp-kneed pols.

—Levin firmly believes there needs to be housecleaning in the House, Senate and the RNC organization, so anyone GOP elite are backing (such as Enzi), are not his first choice....

I understand his desire for “new blood” and Enzi certainly has been in the Senate for a long time.

Cheney, however, is arguably the worse candidate for our cause, and this is known right now. So there’s no rational reason to support her.

Oh, I am not saying I agree with Levin... I leave it to those in Wyoming. However, I did find it interesting that Levin was going out on a limb so early in the game.

“Enzi has an A from the NRA. All I need to know. “

That is becoming a much truer indicator of where candidates need to be politically, instead of how much they support elites and captains of global industry that IMHO are more likely to be guns and rights grabbers than conservatives. Corporatists are the opposite of conservatives.

I strongly oppose the establishment of political families be they be named Clinton, Obama, Bush or Cheney. We need to see more average citizens with ethics and intellect running for office instead of only those with elite political families and attending Harvard. Privilege needs to be earned not handed down.

“America doesn’t need any more Bushes and that goes for Cheneys as well!...These are NWO proponents.”

Wrong on both counts.

If you would have read Bush inner circle articles you would have seen that the Bushites (Powell, Rice and a host of others)were often at odds with conservative Cheney.

Also, yo0u woule realize that Cheney is a Reagan conservative with all three pillars...hardly a NWO type. It doesn’t get too much more bedrock Americana than Dick Cheney.

“Liz Cheney deserves to be a senator about as much as Hillary Clinton did. But, she’s the political legacy of CFR and Tri-Lat one-worlder Dick Cheney. She’ll probably “win”.”

Well said. In today’s climate, campaign money from the connected ones can be used to turn anyone into a pariah. Today’s media whxres would have trashed Christ with their lies and innuendos, because he cast those who wanted profits and control out of the temple.

Actually, I’d say that your comment is lacking support and rationality, unless you have some reasoning behind it.

Yeah, I think Rand can make some good friends here...he is defending a GOP long timer...and frankly, I am disappointed in Liz.

I disagree with her pro-sodomite “marriage” position, and wish she would have tried to replace a DEMOCRAT senator.

Or at least a RETIRING Republican.

Also long time Ohio GOP-E RINO Jim Petro, homo married to homo daughter. Seems that they lack conviction and firm moral standards. I would still love my child if he was gay. I would however , never openly accept a lifestyle that is morally as well as physically and psychologically dangerous.
