The charitable tax deduction was supposed to “reduce the need for government” aid to the needy, ... but “it no longer serves that purpose, given that private charities have become advocates for bigger government.”

... Why does the Left -- which is convinced that any nonprofit that receives tens of thousands of dollars from, say, the Koch Brothers loses all independence -- not fret more about the endangered independence of nonprofits that receive tens of millions of dollars from a U.S. Senator?

Too many charities lobby for bigger government because they're dependent on Uncle Sam's loot. That's just backwards from what private charities are supposed to be doing, which is to prevent the need for more government.

Uncle Sam doesn’t want competition in the charity field. The more handouts, the less private charity is needed, or indeed, can do.
