House Republicans plan to ratchet up scrutiny of the IRS during a hearing Thursday morning where agency workers are expected to discuss the involvement of high-level officials in slowing down applications from Tea Party groups.
For the first time, the House oversight committee has invited two key agency officials to testify. Republican leaders of the committee claimed Wednesday that one of them recently revealed that the IRS chief counsel's office -- led by a political appointee -- played a role, along with embattled IRS official Lois Lerner, in scrutinizing conservative groups.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the committee, told Fox News that agency officials in Cincinnati were taking their orders from Washington, and that the investigation needs to look next at both Lerner and the counsel's office.
"As a part of this ongoing investigation, the committees have learned that the IRS Chief Counsel's office in Washington, D.C. has been closely involved in some of the applications," Issa and other Republicans wrote in a letter to IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel.

Good question.
Why are they being called “Tea Party Cases”? If they were predominantly Progressive groups, would they not have a label of “Progressive Cases”?
That in itself shows the bias as to what the IRS themselves deemed as who was being targeted and not....they named it specifically after the Tea Party because that was the majority of groups being targeted.
And didn’t the IRS already ADMIT and CONFESS that they did this? So why are we going over what they’ve already admitted to? Isn’t this supposed to find out WHO it is tied to and how far up it went? Am I missing something, re: this line of questioning?
Then there is one organization whose request was delayed until they changed the name to a more liberal sounding one after which their application sailed through.
I got bored and turned it off.
Any smoking guns today?
Wasting way to much time on seven progressive names. Give it to them, concede it. There are still 291 conservative groups
Does Cummings have some type of health issue? I just noticed his wrists are abnormally large? misshapen?
I saw that! Much of that in tax forms claiming of dozens of kids in child tax credits-—also paying for children, cousins, etc living in Mexico.
IIRC, don’t even need taxable income for the child tax credit.
And now we are about to hand over ObamaCare to the IRS!!??

Here we go with a smoking gun email being mentioned by Mr. George...roughly 5000 emails that the auditors didn’t have a chance to review.
Not sure if email was destroyed...
Seven names. Are we even sure they are actual going concerns?
The Cincinnati Rogue Agents meme has been demolished. Food chain is now linked to Washington. Ergo, Jay Carney needs to account for his repeated lies to the press.
Back to the smoking gun email...hmmmm. I am wondering if George can even trust his own staff to tell him the truth at this point. You know darn well that the Obama administration has gotten to some of them.
I agree totally.
Kind of like the video that caused the deaths of four Americans.
This Mr. Tierney makes me mad and is the epitome of the Progressive establishment wanting to hush the truth.
“All these rampant allegations causing everyone to be in a uproar....”
This fool acts as if there was no wrong doing, and I’m sure in his eyes, there wasn’t. Not to see what is blatantly right in front of him, makes him unqualified to be there, IMO
So how do we know they're really "progressive groups", and not just shills created for this investigation? Why are those names redacted?
“This fool acts as if there was no wrong doing,”
That was his assignment for the day.
I don’t see how people can climb on Mr.George’s back, he just comes across as so straight-laced.
Oh boy, another more talking to hear himself listen.
Is Jordan and Issa being sarcastic in saying this guy was not playing politic by not releasing this info before the election....because it could have been dynamite for Republic politics to have this info known before Obama’s re-election?
So it’s ok to withhold information against Democrats, but not Republicans, because I guarantee if a Republican were up for re-election, that stuff would have been front and center on every newsstand and media outlet and would NOT have been withheld, politics be damned.
I think he was just blowing back against the current Dem defensive posture, which is that George has been a hack for the Republicans.
