Rolling Stone Defends Cover Featuring Boston Marathon Bombing Suspect (Firestorm Ensues)
Rolling Stone ^ | July 15,2013 | Staff

Rolling Stone has defended its controversial new cover featuring Boston Marathon bombings suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev after triggering a firestorm of comments.

The August issue of the music magazine features a story and photo of Tsarnaev and is titled: "The Bomber: How a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam and became a monster."

After a flurry of negative comments online -- and some commercial stores vowing to refuse to sell this month's issue -- Rolling Stone released a statement defending the cover.

"Our hearts go out to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, and our thoughts are always with them and their families," Rolling Stone said. "The cover story we are publishing this week falls within the traditions of journalism and Rolling Stone's long-standing commitment to serious and thoughtful coverage of the most important political and cultural issues of our day."

The magazine added that "the fact that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is young, and in the same age group as many of our readers, makes it all the more important for us to examine the complexities of this issue and gain a more complete understanding of how a tragedy like this happens."

You made me think whether there was any connection between CBS and Rolling Stone, wondering if maybe CBS had any financial interest in Rolling Stone for them to do what you’ve commented about, but they don’t. That makes your comment even more emphatic, that a liberal news source would hype a fellow liberal rag for no reason other than being part of the same old MSM Dinosaur media.

I’m sure Jann Wenner finds him “dreamy” too.

Thanks for clarifying that. I wasn’t sure if he was indeed ever “Man of the Year”. He certainly was,for some.

Time Magazine had Hitler on its cover three times.

Wish he had been on Sports Illustrated

They put him on the cover because he has that messy, dirty look that they like to see in celebrities. So he is just another celeb to them. If he looked like the blind sheik they would not have put him on the cover.

“Our hearts go out to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, and our thoughts are always with them and their families...”

Nonsense. If your hearts and thoughts were with them, you wouldn’t be glorifying someone who caused them such torment, now would you?

I didn't post it for any ironies or anything confusioning. I posted it simply as a story of the controversy involved. Poster #2 made the comment about CBS hyping Rolling Stone. I responded to his comment as one that I agree with.

Learn to stay focused on what you read.

Anyway, what makes you think I would ever need your help, let alone ask you for it. I think you're the way that needs the help or at least needs to increase the dosages.

Mass murder is a political and cultural issue to them. And they are serious and thoughtful about that.

I seem to recall Time magazine and others with Osama bin
Laden. I’m not sure I see the difference. He’s on the cover
because he is-how do I say this-good looking by American
standards, compared to all of our previous jihadists.
Leftist editors are bewitched by anyone who wants to bring
down America. They just haven’t had one with the face for a
magazine cover till now. I get it.

WTF?????

When I said “you” - I was using it in a generic sense.

I wasn’t referring to you lbryce literally.

But it’s good to know that I’ve finally found the center of the universe. :)

Also, I would consider Rolling Stone historically
significant and currently irrelevant. Probably cause I’m
kind of old. Do the young kids buy it? I don’t know their
circulation numbers.
