ITTLE ROCK (KATV) - A routine traffic stop Monday turned into a chase and ended with an officer-involved shooting.
Sgt. Cassandra Davis said a man in his 30s was pulled over for a traffic stop near the corner of 12th Street and Jefferson because he was believed to be driving a stolen black SUV. The suspect reportedly ran about five blocks behind a building at 1110 Adams Street.
Davis would not give further details about what escalated the situation into a shooting but did confirm that the suspect was dead. The officer was not injured.
Various witnesses have reported hearing anywhere from five to eight shots fired. Because the shooting happened behind a building, there are few witnesses who saw the entire situation.
As of 3:15 p.m., police still would not confirm if the suspect shot at police or was armed at all.
The owner of the car showed up around 2:45 and told KATV's Jason Pederson that the car was not stolen and the driver was her husband, 26-year-old Deon Williams. She said that he had spent some time in prison recently and was out on parole. While she said Williams may have been driving without a license when police pulled him over, she knew of no outstanding warrants that would motivate him to run.
A crowd of more than 100 by some estimates formed after the shooting. As of 3:00 p.m., the crowd was shrinking but becoming more vocal, some holding signs reading

Ahhhhhhh.....Little Rock. I used to go there for business. I was sitting in the breakfast area of the motel one morning watching the local news with other guests. There had been six murders the previous night. One of the victims was a young woman working for Sears at a tent sale in the parking lot. She was hacked to death with a lawn mower blade. All of us in that breakfast room looked at each other and shook our heads.

I’ve visited Nairobi many times and I found the people there to be well behaved.
I’d like to know what compelled the officer to shoot a seemingly unarmed man. This is quite serious if police are going to shoot unarmed people because they “feel threatened” or some such nonsense.
If you don’t think this matters well, how the H do you think we ended up with warrantless searches and no-knock dynamic entry apprehensions? We wound up with them because no one complained when it was done first in the urban ghettos during the ‘80s’ War on Drugs.
Take heed now before the ‘shoot-when-uncomfortable’ comes to your neighborhood and possibly you.
I like Western civilization and its code of law and am very concerned when due process is ignored. If I was in Little Rock I can tell you right now I would be at the capitol tonight in protest.
