Something new to add to the pile of possible lawsuits post-verdict. Trayvon Martins parents will likely sue Zimmerman for wrongful death and hope that the lower standard of proof for civil actions beats his claim of self-defense this time. The feds are pretending that they might prosecute Zimmerman for violating Martins civil rights, but they wont. They probably cant win and the combination of racial tensions and perceptions of double jeopardy (which is what a federal prosecution would smell like, even though its technically not DJ) makes the whole thing too politically risky for O. If he wants to use Zimmerman to galvanize liberals for the midterms, President Above The Fray can have his surrogates pound the table about the Florida verdict. No need to get the DOJ involved.
Meanwhile, as Ed noted earlier, Zimmerman himself seems set to proceed with his defamation action against NBC. Im more skeptical than Ed is about the odds of success: Its very easy to become a public figure for purposes of defamation law, which Zimmerman arguably was even before NBC butchered the tape of his 911 call. NBCs segment ran on March 27, 2012; as of a week earlier, there were protesters at the courthouse in Sanford and news stories running at CNN about the feds opening an investigation into the incident. He was probably already a public figure at that point. Doesnt mean he cant win on defamation, but itll be much harder.
Now, via the Right Scoop, here comes potential lawsuit number four: What if Zimmerman sues Angela Corey and the state? Watch the clip and youll find Mark OMara hinting at compensation. I wasnt sure offhand what he meant by that, but a little educated googling revealed a few possibilities....

Long odds against winning but not a bad strategic idea to take the offense.
Nothing makes politicians and lawyers shake in their boots more than the thought of having to testify under oath.
He’ll need something besides his own personal funds behind him in order to do this...
I know the ACLU wouldn’t back him, but perhaps the ACLJ might, or the Cato Inst, or Heritage Foundation...
Zimmerman should sue them for raising a thug who attacked him.
And also for lying to try to get him persecuted.
If a totally and demonstrably LIBERAL and biased MSM forced this farce onto the legal system (I can say this after their in the tank support of "O" through 2 Presidential campaigns), and IF they EVEN had a 'judge' who was publicly, laughably and consistently prejudiced against the defendant, and even IF major news outlets admittedly spewed lies and misinformation non stop and the prosecution STILL lost...you can see how spurious and trumped-up the charges against Zimmerman were.
The MSM is getting more and more sloppy and irresponsible. On this one, they covered themselves with s^%#!
When I went through defensive weapon training, our instructor mentioned that if we had to defend ourselves, we should ask the officers on the scene to press charges against the perp who wanted to cause death or bodily harm to us. (yes, I know the perp in this case died)
I will make a donation to help the cause if it comes to pass.
Another thread poster stated that Corey's "murderer" comment was not protected under state employment immunity.
Man, I hope someone is wired in any conversation with the persecution. I’ll bet they are willing to make a deal about dropping the persecution of George’s wife if he promises not to go after them.
WHAT political risks? Barry isn’t running again. He KNOWS the media will not criticize him and Republicans are too gutless. So, WHAT political risks???
...sounds like the course I took.
Strategic thinking has never been demonstrated to be one of his strengths.
I hope he wins millions from the hateful celebrities and the “news” outlets that contorted the truth against him.
He cannot sue the prosecutors themselves...but he can sue the city of Stanford....and State of Florida....for pushing a political prosecution
The Black Ku Klux Klan needs to be stopped....and this would be a good step
“He cannot sue the prosecutors themselves..”
He can’t sue Angela Corey for withholding exclupatory evidence? I think not.
“Yet something tells me he just won’t be able to help himself. “
Of course he won’t. OweBowMao used the Trayvon incident in 2012 to help him win Florida by 70,000 votes, and he and the DOJ will ratchet it up again for the midterms and who knows how much longer.
After all there is no statute of limitations in a hate crime.
