the Democracy Initiative may be the first time so many groups teamed up to work on multiple issues not tied to an election. "This is really the first time that a broad spectrum of groups have come together around a big agenda that impacts the state and national level," says Kim Anderson, who runs the NEA's center for advocacy and outreach and attended the December meeting.

The Democracy Initiative grew out of conversations in recent years among Radford, Brune, CWA president Larry Cohen, and NAACP president Ben Jealous. ("We all have a knitting class together," Brune jokes.) Brune says the four men bemoaned how the dysfunctional political process was making it impossible for their groups to achieve their goals. "We're not going to have a clean-energy economy," he says, "if the same companies that are polluting our rivers and oceans are also polluting our elections."

Greenpeace's Phil Radford notes that for decades conservatives have aimed to shrink local, state, and federal governments by reforming the rules so they could install like-minded politicians, bureaucrats, and judges. Radford calls it "a 40-plus-year strategy by the Scaifes, Exxons, Coors, and Kochs of the world…to take over the country."

One of their main goals is to “get big money out of politics,” and to achieve that goal many attendees promised to donate “millions of dollars.” I can only conclude that they are trying to figure out ways to keep CONSERVATIVE money out of politics, while they continue to have free reign.

I just shake my head in disgust at the Republican Party.

We should be able to beat the snot out of the left and all the Republicans can do is give us RINO's to vote for.

Why bother?

Could have fooled me! I would say that exactly the opposite has happened. And as for their democracy initiative? seems to promise the socialist dream, not Democracy.

Steve_Seattle's Rule of Politics #8: If libs accuse conservatives of something, it's because they want to do it themselves, or are already doing it. Ever since the late 60s, the far left has been trying to take over the country.

I hope they understand that their plans are leading to massive bloodshed and crushing poverty for everyone.

What? The GOP wasn’t there adding their two cents? Extra ordinarily extraordinary.

The Massive New Liberal Plan to Remake American Politics

The left will never sleep, will never let up, until the Constitution, traditional America, and Christianity are all destroyed, and we are slaves of the new world order - a one-world government, run by the left, for the left, with boots on the necks of everyone else, with all of mankind entering a new dark age.

"Sierra Club . . . Greenpeace"

Attendees at a major meeting to formulate wide-ranging political strategies, presumably on behalf of future Democratic political candidates. But I doubt the IRS had any questions whatsoever about the propriety of any of this.

Ping for later, but just let me say this for now, THANKS Mother Jones for removing any and all doubt that the NEA is anything other than a hard left organization.

So this group of liberals is going to try and kill the filibuster, kill lobbying, and kill voter ID laws.

Since corporations run this country they will get nowhere on the first two. On the third, who cares? Since the politicians do the bidding of the corporations, who cares who elects them? Who cares if they are elected by liberals or conservatives? They will all eventually bow down before the almighty campaign dollar and do the bidding of their corporate owners.

Pretty much every major corporation is on-board with affirmative action, the gay agenda, multiculturalism, etc.

Any conservative who believes he is supporting the free market system by going to bat for corporations is just being a useful idiot for crony capitalists who will give him a job if he has a skill which can't be replaced by a robot or illegal alien, but meanwhile undermine his moral and cultural beliefs through amoral corporate directives.
