President Barack Obama urged Americans to keep calm in the wake of Saturday's jury verdict finding George Zimmerman not guilty of charges associated with the controversial shooting death of black teen Trayvon Martin.
"I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher," Obama said Sunday in a statement. "But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son."

I’ll reserve comment until a federal charges decision is made on “civil rights” violations.
You must forgive him, English is not his native language - Kenyan and Indonesian are.
“George Zimmerman has sued NBC Universal for defamation. The company strongly denies the allegation.”
I didn’t know he had already... good!
You'll rot in hell.
This is no different than your other games...
"The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if were doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if were doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, thats a job for all of us. Thats the way to honor Trayvon Martin."
The fact that elected official have to urge one specific group to remain calm speaks volumes about their culture.
The case only came to trial because of YOUR instructions to Corey.
According to his lawyer he already has his gun back and says he needs it now more than over. I really hope George has left the country, he needs to go to Puerto Rico or somewhere else for a while, he is NOT safe here
Whoa, when I read the headliine, I was expecting to see
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative posted by John Semmens under it.
This case didn’t involve gun violence. The gun was self defence. It was fist and concrete violence. Why should we honor Trayvon’s violent behavior, Mr. President?
This is a smoke screen to make him look innocent of the crimes he is trying to instigate behind the scenes.
Obama and all who fancy themselves as black leaders should ask themselves if they've done all they can, or if they've done anything at all, to begin turning back the insane street justice idiocy of viewing minor slights as being "disrespected".
I think it is highly likely that feeling he'd been "dissed" by a "creepy ass cracker" is what led Trayvon to, rather than simply going on to the apartment where his father was, to turn back and confront Zimmerman and start the assault that ended with his being shot and killed.
This notion that minor slights, or disses must be avenged is probably responsible for thousands of deaths of young blacks each year. That's something that needs to be studied and addressed.
There is aways a first time for everything. It's about time, though.
I am concerned about the conciliatory facade. I believe he and EH have something up their sleeves.
Notice he said “A jury”, not “The jury”.
It would have been nice if he kept his mouth shut last March, but this actually is a real Presidential Remark.
This does not excuse his race-baiting and dragging GZ through this difficult ordea was probably the most shameful use of federal power I’ve seen in my lifetime. We have a strange bunch running this country: from Benghazi to Zimmerman to the IRS to selective enforcement of our laws (including Obamacare), our President is just an enigma. I can’t wait until this guy passes into the dust-bin of history. He’s not solely to blame, but one of the big reasons for the disfunction in our counrty is President Obama. His handling and politicalization of the Z case is just another example of his failure as a true American leader..
It looks like John Semmens’ exquisite writings here led to a job offer to him from the White Hut, which he apparently accepted.
