Mandatory Sentences Under the 10-20-Life Law
The legislation (Chapter 99-12) enacted to implement the Governor's proposal provided mandatory sentences for felons convicted of crimes in which they used a gun. The following provisions [Section 775.087 (2)-(4), Florida Statutes] became effective for crimes committed on or after July 1, 1999.
Mandatory Sentences Under the 10-20-Life Law
That law is for someone who is ALREADY a felon.
RummyChick, you have been here a long time. Don't you know how to format a clickable link yet?
girl fight ??
The Judge told West that 10-20-life applied to ALL THREE sentencing guidelines that were being discussed.
West did a double take and the Judge said something like..trust me I am right about it applying to the child abuse one

Pay close attention to this paragraph:
http://www.staugustinecriminallawyer.com/blog/understanding-the-florida-10-20-life-law/
“For instance, the statutes dont take into account those who have no previous criminal records or those who possessed a gun but did not actually use it to commit a crime. It is also important to note, firing a weapon doesnt imply any particular aim or intent to harm: fire the gun into the air to get everyones attention, for instance, and Florida state law demands a 20-year prison sentence for that act alone.”
It’s pretty well accepted..even by GZ’s lawyers that he is facing the 10-20-life rule. If you watched them during the exchange with the Judge during jury instructions you would have seen it.
The only contention was West not knowing it applied to the Child Abuse issue
The clickable link does take extra time so I don't always do it.
You might want to read the law before you claim the Bill S doesn’t know what he is talking about...here it is
