'Victory' for Boehner as House passes farm bill without food stamps

Speaker John Boehner proved to the world that he still has enough support among Republicans in the House to pass a bill.

The fact that the Senate won't touch the Farm Bill passed by the House and President Obama has threatened to veto it because the GOP scrubbed the food stamp provision in the legislation, also means that Boehner is still clueless about almost everything else.

Do I have this correct? Food stamps are not funded....YEAH!!!!

I'm old enough to remember that people with limited economic resources found a way to survive without food stamps. When the food stamps came along, prices almost immediately went up on the basic foods income-challenged people ate.

Some smaller farmers may be hurt by the loss of subsidies with no replacement income like crop insurance

The author of the article is an idiot. "Crop Insurance" is not "income". The government currently pays about 60 percent of the premium, but insurance companys must take in 2 dollars for every one they pay out to survive. Insurance is NOT INCOME. Take away the subsidy for crop insurance and very few farmers will insure their crops. That will make the market price more volatile.

Is this the same bill handed out this morning to be ‘voted’ on by Noon?

The same bill that makes permanent the crap sandwich it, and all in the past, have been; no voting to renew every 5-yrs.?

The same bill that continues to Federally intrude in market forces and giving taxpayer $$ out to (mostly) big corporations?

Yep, REAL ‘nice’ job....Do we have a ‘surplus’ yet on our $16+T DEBT ($120T+ in unfunded liabilities...but (hush) don’t talk about that part)?!

Why can’t they just hedge in the commodity markets? Also, why would food prices be so volatile? Food companies store more than one seasons worth of crops, no?

"Food Stamps are going to be a SEPARATE BILL to be debated on. This one that passed is REALLY related to farms. PERIOD. FULL STOP."

Yeah, but the GOP was stupid for doing it this way. They should have introduced both bills at the same time. And voted on the Food stamps one first. This way, the 'rats will be able to say the Republicans killed food stamps. And when we do get a Food Stamp Bill it will look like it's in response to Democrat demands.

Don’t farmers grow food and sell it?
What in God’s name is a “farm bill”, and what does the scumbag government have to do with farming?

“What in God’s name is a “farm bill”, and what does the scumbag government have to do with farming.”

I’m with you 100%. Passing a socialist farm bill is no victory. The government has no more business taking my money and giving it to farmers than it does giving it to welfare freeloaders. Everyone would be better off, farmers included, if we got the government and its corruption of market forces out of farming.

this was pointless

making food stamps a separate bill doesnt help anything

his bill also makes ag subsidies permanent

not a victory for us
