It was just after 4.a.m. when officers spotted a speeding pick-up they suspected may have been stolen. They attempted to pull it over and four men jumped out.
Officers started chasing the suspects on foot in a neighborhood near W. Orem Drive and Buffalo Speedway. Police say the men tried to break into a womans home and tried to shoot one of her dogs. The dog wasnt hurt.
The suspects then ran through several neighbors yards until one of the homeowners took out his shotgun.
"I aimed at one coming that way, and then one coming the other way. I dont know if I hit them or not," said the neighbor who didnt want his name used.
"They wont be back," his wife said. "Theyre not stupid enough."

Perry signs 'loser pays' lawsuit reform into law
I specifies 'frivolous' lawsuits, and I can't think of a single reason someone trying to sue someone else because they shot their stupid arse for trespassing...... on their property..... at night - to be anything other than 'frivolous'.
I may be the only decenter here, but it’s my take that you don’t shoot at folks just because they are running from the police. You do shoot if they run up to you or your property in a threatening manner.
In most places, you have to be in clear fear of your life, to use deadly force.
I think it’s best to allow the police to use deadly force if in fact it needs to used.
People bolt from the police for minor offenses at times. I’d sure hate to have shot a guy dead because he freaked out about being caught for some petty crime.

Texas Law Shield...great idea.
Thanks
You’re exactly right...imagine driving up to a convenience store, hearing what sounds like gunshots and seeing two guys running out the store...
do you open up on them?
do you try to detain them?
do you unholster your weapon and sit in your car after memorizing a description of the two guys?
I will take door number 3, although my guess is many here on FReep would start blazing away.
For all those who have been somewhat cowed by the Zimmerman trial, remember that you might indeed face a few uncomfortable months if you kill a criminal, *or* you might face an eternity of never doing anything ever again.

Most of them are armchair gunfighters.
