WASHINGTON, D.C. – The following statement was issued today by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), and Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) following a special meeting of the House Republican Conference to discuss the issue of immigration reform:

“Today House Republicans affirmed that rather than take up the flawed legislation rushed through the Senate, House committees will continue their work on a step-by-step, common-sense approach to fixing what has long been a broken system. The American people want our border secured, our laws enforced, and the problems in our immigration system fixed to strengthen our economy. But they don’t trust a Democratic-controlled Washington, and they’re alarmed by the president’s ongoing insistence on enacting a single, massive, Obamacare-like bill rather than pursuing a step-by-step, common-sense approach to actually fix the problem. The president has also demonstrated he is willing to unilaterally delay or ignore significant portions of laws he himself has signed, raising concerns among Americans that this administration cannot be trusted to deliver on its promises to secure the border and enforce laws as part of a single, massive bill like the one passed by the Senate.”

It's hopeful, but not a done deal, so we need to keep the pressure on. The big bucks who want cheap labor are leaning on them, the dems are doing their ususal race baiting demagoguery, and the media will always be against us.

In light of all that, this isn't a bad start at all.

The law clearly states this is the province of the executive branch to enforce immigration law.

So it is. But the law does NOT say that it is province of the exec branch to pick & choose what parts of the law to enforce. Nor does it permit them do the opposite of selected portions of the law. To do these things is de facto legislation and unconstitutional. The entire law must be enforced, at least in a real constitutional republic.

Much of what the EB has been doing for years is clearly unconstitutional. But the congress takes the attitude that since it's been going on already, it would be improper to start enforcing the Constitution now. Just let it continue.

The Catechism states, logically, as it would, that Catholics are never to promote illegal immigration nor giving away resources to those who would not aid the country, as the country (host country, us) would be then depleted of resources intended to aid in proliferation of helping others in the future

They are also supposed to stay out of politics

They cite that as the reaaon for not speaking from the pulpit against abortion for rhe past 40 years

as currently is the case, US laws that are not enforced is what magnifies the rampant disregard for the law in the first place, hence, according to reports NOT FROM the MSM, there are approximately 43 million illegal immigrants currently in the US. Congress has to keep on passing new laws in order to distract the public from focusing on their past failures stemming from other flawed legislation. I understand the desire to see the worst, but from what they have said here, they are leaning in our direction. I realize we could be betrayed, but my take is we should be encouraged that our pressure is working and continue putting pressure on.

If any kind of ‘comprehensive’ immigration reform ever goes to conference and is then past into law, how many days (or hours) would go by until a lib federal judge rules that it's “unconstitutional” to deny citizenship to illegals for 10+ years so they must become citizens, with full voting rights and benefits, immediately?

“Not only is the Senate amnesty bill an abuse of taxpayers and immigrants, it’s utterly unconstitutional. The Senate cannot invent its own amnesty taxes,” said Cong Stockman (R-TX). “I hope Speaker Boehner will immediately kill the amnesty bill through a constitutionally-required blue slip. As long as the amnesty bill sits in the House it poses a threat to taxpayers and immigrants.”

Just before the reform procedural vote, Judiciary Committee member Sen Grassley offered a simple amendment to the Judiciary Committee considering voting the immigration bill out of commmittee. "The secretary (of homeland security) may not grant registered provisional immigrant status to an alien under this section unless the alien fully discloses to the secretary all the names and Social Security account numbers that the alien has ever used to obtain employment in the United States," said Grassley's amendment.

Grassley's amendment would not have prohibited illegal aliens from being converted into legal aliens just because they had used names and Social Security numbers that did not belong to them. It would only have required that the illegal aliens make the names and numbers they used known to DHS before they could be granted the right to legally live in the United States.

Grassley said, "Congress should not thumb its nose at the millions of Americans who are victims of identity theft, often perpetrated by an undocumented person who steals Social Security numbers to get jobs, govt benefits, driver's licenses and more. This amendment will simply require the person applying for RPI status to disclose any previously used Social Security numbers," said Grassley. "It's the first step to helping clean up the mess that's been created for the victim of identity theft. The amendment also authorizes certain federal agencies, upon receipt of this information, to notify individuals who were the victims."

"When people are living in undocumented status, there are times, I suppose, when they've made up identities, made up Social Security numbers," Schumer told his Judiciary Committee colleagues. "How are they going to remember all that, and are we going to delay RPI status? "(The) purpose of this bill is to bring people out of the shadows. We all know when they lived in the shadows, they had to forge documents, forge Social Security numbers, et cetera. I just don't see how, when you've lived here 10 years, and you've had many different identities, many different numbers, you're going to remember them all," said Schumer.

I DID read their statement, Lakeshark, and I read this:

Today House Republicans affirmed that rather than take up the flawed legislation rushed through the Senate, House committees will continue their work on a step-by-step, common-sense approach to fixing what has long been a broken system.

That means, in Washingtonese, that they will not consider the Senate bill BUT they will begin work on the issue of immigration reform. They say that will include security but it will also, I guarantee you, some provisions for what to do about the millions who are here. And I am saying we should not be accepting the need for immigration reform as a premise, one that has been set for us by the marxists and then taken up by their useful idiots, like McCain. THERE IS NO NEED TO EVEN BE LOOKING AT NEW LAWS ON ILLEGAL ALIENS. There is no problem with the laws it is a problem of the men entrusted to enforce those laws. They have refused to do so since Bush I.

What the House should be doing is holding hearings on how the 1986 law was sold, how the people pushing it were disingenuous, how it was intended to work, why it hasn't been followed, how it would work if enforced, whether it needs to have some tweaks to things like verification of eligibility to work and the elements of criminal sanctions for employers and illegals, or whether it is sufficient. Then call in admin officials and excoriate them about not enforcing the border or building the fence. Maybe hold hearings on the provisions of Mexico's immigration laws and how it treats illegals.

You know, educate the people and put pressure on the other side about its failure to uphold the oath to faithfully execute the law. Not come up with a counter proposal so you can meet somewhere in between, which is what the statement indicates is what they will do.

If you read their statement carefully perhaps you would see that.
