WASHINGTON, D.C. The following statement was issued today by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), and Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) following a special meeting of the House Republican Conference to discuss the issue of immigration reform:
Today House Republicans affirmed that rather than take up the flawed legislation rushed through the Senate, House committees will continue their work on a step-by-step, common-sense approach to fixing what has long been a broken system. The American people want our border secured, our laws enforced, and the problems in our immigration system fixed to strengthen our economy. But they dont trust a Democratic-controlled Washington, and theyre alarmed by the presidents ongoing insistence on enacting a single, massive, Obamacare-like bill rather than pursuing a step-by-step, common-sense approach to actually fix the problem. The president has also demonstrated he is willing to unilaterally delay or ignore significant portions of laws he himself has signed, raising concerns among Americans that this administration cannot be trusted to deliver on its promises to secure the border and enforce laws as part of a single, massive bill like the one passed by the Senate.
Just secure the damned border, you morons.
Chairman Camp: Senate immigration bill a revenue bill; unconstitutional and cannot be taken up by the House.— Ways and Means (@WaysandMeansGOP) July 10, 2013
Your honor, I know I didn’t pay my taxes for the last six years, but the system is broken.
I know you’ll give me a pass... Thank you so much.
I just got this in my email from my rep. I spoke with one of his top aides, it’s leaning our way, I reminded him about the reconciliation process, and he heard me loud and clear. He promised to keep me informed. I actually like this guy (rep’s aide) and believe what he has been telling me.
Thank you for the info, like I said, this is not a done deal, but it’s leaning our way.
This is not complicated.
Secure the border.
Enforce the law.
Let the chips fall.
Enforcing the laws already on the books will solve the problem. We don’t need any more stinkin’ laws!
fixed to strengthen our economy.
Don't give up yet, keep the pressure on.
This was well put. Hard to argue against.
Sounds like the dance of slow death.
The longer it draws out the more time to increase opposition, thats why Rubio and Schumer had to get a Senate bill pass as quick as they could."
"Just vote 'yes' now, its our only chance, we need those hispanics, the system is broken. BLA-BLA-BLA"
I’m not excusing the RINO’s in the Senate, nor those in the House **cough, cough, Paul Ryan, etc.**, but let’s get this straight: The law clearly states this is the province of the executive branch to enforce immigration law.
Anything they pass is a trojan horse for the Senate bill. We are much better off if nothing is passed.
“Just secure the damned border, you morons.”
Just enforce the existing laws. No new laws are needed.
I think you mean the ‘Congressional Conference Committee process ‘. Reconciliation sounds too much like ‘budget reconciliation’ which is completely different.
This statement addresses my concerns - We do not trust Obama, we do not want another Obamacare-like bill jammed down our throats, the Administration will not honor the bill anyway, let’s use Common Sense to fix it. Great statement.
Yes. He understood me loud and clear, and understood that I knew the process. That’s the message we need to send. No bill that can in any way go to conference with the Senate bill.
and ALSO do something about 40% of illegals who entered legally and overstayed their temporary visa.
Carl Cameron told BOR last night that IR is all but dead in the House.
