Video: Judge Storms Out of Zimmerman Trial
Tuesday, July 9, 2013 | Kristinn, video by "The Count"

The second degree murder trial of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin took a bizarre turn tonight as the judge presiding over the case stormed out of her courtroom over the objections of defense attorneys.

Judge Nelson had heard several hours of after hours arguments on proposed defense evidence and witnesses.

As the 10 o'clock hour drew near, Nelson announced the court would be in recess until 8 a.m. tomorrow, prompting objections from defense attorneys O'Mara and West that would not give them time to prepare for the day. Nelson told them she didn't want the jury to have to wait like they did this morning. As West complained that he physically could not keep up the pace the judge was forcing on the defense Nelson bolted from her chair and stormed out of the courtroom.

The entire 16 minutes of the YouTube video of the end of today's session is worth watching. Advance to the last few minutes, about 14:00, for the fireworks.

IMHO, take the damn cameras out of the court room so these kind of cases don't turn into the media circuses they have become.

On the other side of the coin, if this "trial" was not on TV (as you call it), Zimmerman would probably already have been found guilty. It's the eye of the public that's keeping this circus "honest," such as it sadly is.

I agree with your sentiment, but I don't see a good alternative. I hated all the Jodi Arias stories too.

I think you confuse “mistrial” with “appeal” they are two different things.

What was the “sequestration violation” issue? The cited video mentioned that it would be decided tomorrow morning, but the issue was not described.

Also, earlier on this thread asked what data from the phone was withheld by the prosecution. The video showed the defense complaining, but did not provide information on what it was.

IMHO, take the damn cameras out of the court room so these kind of cases don't turn into the media circuses they have become. No judge or lawyer (or juror or witness) should ever have to hope for or worry about being a media 'celebrity' because of a trial. A criminal trial is serious stuff, yet we are allowing it to be turned into a perverse form of entertainment.

Good point. But there is a flip side.

How would the American people be able see the glaring bias this government judge has against the defendant?

How else would America be able to see a corrupt government judge show her contempt for fairness, truth and justice live on television?

Thanks for posting this. I watched the trial all day except when they broke away about the time of the discussion about the texts of local coverage. Gosh, the defense team surely had a reason to be upset since the state and this judge have been helping one another all of the way through this. This judge is for the state. Zimmerman is being railroaded. She didn’t need to become ill with the defense even while the defendant is sitting in the courtroom. Bad behavior and leaning to an injustice. Hoping those jurors find him not guilty.

“Men can be perfectly stupid “judges” too. I think Ito was a “man?””

Yes they can. Stupid AND corrupt. Like Judge Greer (Terri Shiavo murder-by-judge).

“Trayvons troops will riot and loot no matter the verdict.”

And THAT, according to my twenty-something-year-old children, IS the distraction which will lead to even further usurping of our FREEDOM.

Then what hope have we to attain racial harmony? And why can’t two races see the same set of visuals, facts in this case in the same way?

The defense witness Donnelly was in court apparently on a number of occasions prior to his testimony and we can assume he heard both testimony and motions - very bad - and it makes you question how that could have happened. There is another matter regarding some defense witnesses “comparing notes” before testifying as well - I haven’t heard much about that, but tomorrow morning is going to be interesting.

Is this 10:00 am or pm.?

If it’s pm then nobody is appeals court going to fault the judge for recessing.

The male member of the Donnely family was sitting in the courtroom earlier in the trial.
