The second degree murder trial of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin took a bizarre turn tonight as the judge presiding over the case stormed out of her courtroom over the objections of defense attorneys.
Judge Nelson had heard several hours of after hours arguments on proposed defense evidence and witnesses.
As the 10 o'clock hour drew near, Nelson announced the court would be in recess until 8 a.m. tomorrow, prompting objections from defense attorneys O'Mara and West that would not give them time to prepare for the day. Nelson told them she didn't want the jury to have to wait like they did this morning. As West complained that he physically could not keep up the pace the judge was forcing on the defense Nelson bolted from her chair and stormed out of the courtroom.
The entire 16 minutes of the YouTube video of the end of today's session is worth watching. Advance to the last few minutes, about 14:00, for the fireworks.

I agree and ‘neighbor watch’ will be a thing of the past - the liberals will make sure of this. No one can ‘watch’ them as they roam about.
Then she shouldn’t have taken an oath and went into the criminal justice system as a career to begin with.
She’s playing with a means life here. I do NOT feel sorry for her.
When you’re in her position you can’t think about me me me...good grief...
Does anyone have a conscience or any character these days.
Maybe she should have taken a note from the first judge who refused to sit for the case...(or maybe that was a prosecutor?) Either way, her job is about HONOR and INTEGRITY.
Lots of people risk their lives everyday in jobs that pay a lot less than hurt does...
She realized she was missing the beginning of Greta’s show.
I believe there are great grounds for a mistrial here. The defendant has the right to see and hear the witnesses and evidence presented against him. The judge doesn’t see it that way. Mistrial, and judicial dereliction of duty.
If nothing else, the defense is setting up the ground work for an appeal in the event that Zimmerman is convicted.
I can understand the judge needing to call a halt to these motions due to the late hour, but I really think she should have said something to the effect that she’d take up these legal issues in the morning when court convenes.
By continually squelching the defense, she opens the door for a successful appeal should that need arise. Sometimes such a thing can even be a strategy which ends up helping the defendant later. I don’t think that’s the case here because she seems to have consistently been on the side of the state whereas she’s supposed to be impartial.
The fact that she denied the defense the opportunity to investigate the validity of the texts is suspect.
Rather than crying to the judge about how tired they are, they need to hire some folks to take up some tasks thereby reducing the burdens they have.
And I DO think that the judge should have reprimanded the prosecutor for withholding evidence like that. AND, she should give some apparently much needed time to the defense to investigate.
State trials cost money too, and it sure would be a waste of the tax payer’s dollar to have to retry the case, because things were done in a prejudicial manner.
It’s ALWAYS a good practice (at high profile trials especially) to make sure that the defendant’s rights are fully protected because it saves a whole lot of time and work, later (ie mistrials and appeals).
I’ve been to capitol murder cases where the defendant was as protected as could be..in a very righteous and fair manner...and the prosecutor won his case!
It pissed off the victim families, but when those appeals came around, the excuses by the defense just didn’t hold water.
How ironic that there is a placard in the courtroom saying something about a search for the truth.
“right to her fat, ugly face”
Is the judge related to the girlfriend? They could be sisters.
They can blackmail John Roberts, who says they can’t wave a carrot in front of Judge Nelson? Zimmerman convicted, Nelson nominated to federal court.
ROFL! There are any number of libs who are cooing about how professional and balanced she is. She just LOVES that!
The guy in black robes looking for his star to be on the Hollywood walk of fame? Ya, I remember him as well as the so-called prosecution team who wanted their stars there as well --- plus the book and movie deals.
Serving justice was not among any of their priorities.
IMHO, take the damn cameras out of the court room so these kind of cases don't turn into the media circuses they have become. No judge or lawyer (or juror or witness) should ever have to hope for or worry about being a media 'celebrity' because of a trial.
A criminal trial is serious stuff, yet we are allowing it to be turned into a perverse form of entertainment.
I don’t know if it is just that. She has to be looking at this whole thing unfolding, and realizing her career is cooked no matter what. She has clearly, either through negligence or outright malice, misaligned the wheels of justice.
She can probably already see what the future holds, and the noose around that future seems to get tighter everytime the defense says anything at all.
Well, you’re about to lose a friend. She’ll claim you went “raciss” first.
I hope you’re not coworkers. If you are, I recommend you stop talking to her on this subject because if there’s a problem, she will start it and you will be blamed.
No win? BS...get a handgun and win! Carry it always judge....get some courage, that is why you are there sitting on the bench! To have courage to do the right thing. I am tired of cowering down to villains! Screw them...
Yes, you are. You're right on target.

Are we seeing a bunch of whiney womynzlibwenches crawling out of the woodwork in response to your stellar comment?
LOL... perhaps the judge read this thread.
The domestic terrorist threat from the black community looms large over the courtroom, with a frightened all-female platoon of front line soldiers about to turn their backs and run from the rule of law in this case.
What evidence did the prosecutor not provide to the defense?
Glad no blacks are on the jury, but they are all women, which is very bad.
I think Ito was a man?
Coulda fooled me.
