USA Today had a very different Title for the Report
The unilateral decision by the US to launch a military operation to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden on Pakistani territory constituted "an act of war", a Pakistani government investigation has found. The report of the Abbottabad Commission, which investigated the circumstances around the raid and how the al-Qaeda leader came to live in the country for nine years without apparently being detected, was exclusively released by Al Jazeeras Investigative Unit on Monday. The report of the commission, formed in June 2011 to probe the circumstances around the killing of bin Laden by US forces in a unilateral raid on the Pakistani city of Abbottabad, had earlier been suppressed by the Pakistani government. The raid illustrated Washington's "contemptuous disregard of Pakistans sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity in the arrogant certainty of [
] unmatched military might", the report concluded in its "Findings" section. The report draws on testimony from more than 200 witnesses, including members of Bin Laden's family, Pakistan's then spy chief, senior ministers in the government and officials at every level of the military, bureaucracy and security services. Scathing report The commission's 336-page report is scathing, holding both the government and the military responsible for "gross incompetence" leading to "collective failures" that allowed both Bin Laden to escape detection, and the US to be able to violate Pakistani sovereignty by carrying out an attack on its soil without the knowledge of the military or the government. |

“Well, can anyone deny that staging a military invasion is an act of war?”
Technically “an invasion”, but hardly based in reality. A legal incursion to get a war criminal would be more accurate.
“it was an act of war.”
Again, technically.
So you were against the raid to kill Bin Laden?
Yes,....very revealing ...
If it was an “act of war” it was so created by the total and legitimate mistrust of Pakistan, by the U.S., by virtue of its intent, or its neglect, or its incompetence in (a) not knowing Bin Laden was in plain sight in Pakistan and (b) the U.S. having NOT obtained that information from Pakistan.
Under the circumtances, “innocent” or not, Pakistan could not be trusted with the raid information until after the fact.
If Pakistan was really and truly merely neglectfully, incompetently innocent, then how is it the Pakistani doctor who helped the U.S. nail down Bin Laden’s location is considered to be traitor to Pakistan?
Guess we can count on the oceans to protect us!
Some decades ago, representatives from the Irish Republican Army would do fund-raising in the US in Irish-American communities. Visualize the reaction if British SAS commandos staged a hit on the IRA guys on US soil.
“The unilateral decision by the US to launch a military operation to capture or kill Osama Bin Laden on Pakistani territory constituted “an act of war”, a Pakistani government investigation has found.”
Uh-oh! Does that mean that Pakistan is going to declare war on the US of A?
Or will they complain to the impotent international criminal court in Belgium?
It is an act of war.
And I wish they’d declare war on us. It would be good to wipe out the insane islamofascists ruling that part of the world.
I also think its an act of war against us to harbor bin laden.
And no I don’t believe for a moment they weren’t.
IMHO, giving Bin Laden shelter all those years was akin to an act of war. Don’t buy for a second the premise that they didn’t know he was there.
We made a deal with the devil so we could invade Afghanistan. The problem is that while we have troops in Afghanistan we still need the devil.
Pakistan is fighting the P-Taliban in their country. They are supporting the A-Taliban in Afghanistan. The Afghan government is supporting the P-Taliban and fighting the A-Taliban. The P-Taliban and A-Taliban are fighting each other for territory. Afghan and Pakistan troops have been squaring off along the border. And we are supplying both of them with money. We are also negotiating with the A-Taliban.
What a cluster.
They’re just now figuring out that it was an act of war?
Let them declare war- and as soon as they do, we nuke their capital right off the bat.
So, Bin Laden thought he was at war with us, and Pakistan called what we did in response an “act of war”.
So, why does Obama want to try those nice boys down in GTMO in civilian courts, when the people whose opinion he seems to value highly are pretty confident that they are at war with us?
By removing the obstacle to peace between the Pakistan Nation and the rest of the law abiding nations of the world, the US did a service of restoring their good standing without violation of their so called government services. For the Paki's to feel that their sovereignty was broached by the US raid, they would have to also admit that they sought to be an outlaw state such as Iran. Of course, their development of Nukes did just that years before and only because of Bin Laden did they actually become somewhat reinstated into the international community.
By sponsoring the 9/11 attacks, Pakistan went to war with the US. We simply chose to turn a blind eye to Pakistani complicity. It's as if, in response, to Pearl Harbor, we had said "Never mind".
Does this mean we can stop sending them money?
We know how you feel, Pakistan. 0bama is waging war on the United States, too.. only without the stealth helicopters.
Ya know, I think they're trying to provoke us or something declaring our killing Bin Laden "an act of war." That's tantamount to admitting they were providing him safe harbor.
Assuming that's the case, any President with a pair of testicles would have Predator Drones raining fire down on them .... but since we have this panty-waste muslim ass kisser in the White House no doubt an apology followed by repeated bowing is forthcoming.
