Syria's Brotherhood says West must step up arms to rebels

The Syrian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood called on Sunday for the United States and Europe to deliver the rebels promised military support after the opposition's National Coalition voted in a new president and ended a months-long leadership vacuum.

The United States has signaled it is ready to send arms to the rebels, in addition to humanitarian and non-lethal military aid already in the millions of dollars. Its Gulf allies Qatar and Saudi Arabia are already sending in arms.

But there have been no confirmed reports of shipments reaching Syria from its hesitant Western backers.

"We feel abandoned and disappointed that the United States and Europe have backed down from their position regarding arming the Free Syrian Army and we call on the international community to fulfill its obligations," said a statement posted by the Brotherhood on Twitter....

Melhem al-Drobi, a senior official with the Syrian Brotherhood, said there had been no official change from foreign powers in terms of promises to step up aid to the rebels.

He said the Coalition's election on Saturday, which brought the Saudi-backed tribal leader Ahmed al-Jarba to the helm, should give the West the confidence now to send promised aid.

"We hope the international community will act seriously as it had promised. Up to this point, foreign support has been too minimal to offer any change," Drobi told Reuters by telephone from the conference in Istanbul.

"They have officially welcomed our new leader. Now they need to take the practical steps required."

Washington began to see arming the rebels as more pressing after Assad and Hezbollah forces began operations that seem aimed at securing a belt of territory between the capital and his stronghold and the Syrian coast. That would divide the north and south of Syria, where rebels hold swathes of territory.

The correct approach is to determine the allocation of money and firepower which will keep this stalemate going as long as possible. The only good thing about this conflict is that somebody evil is going to lose.

We should arm the side that is losing at the moment, but just enough to keep the fighting balanced for about, oh, 50 years.

An instruction flyer dropped from aircraft showing how to aim a rifle would do wonders.

So, the US must support the MB at all costs? Support them in Syria, support them in Egypt, support them in their war against the USA?

The US should help secular blood thirsty dictators put down radical Muslims while also permitting radical, blood thirsty Muslims put down blood thirsty dictators...

Either way, they’re gonna hate your guts and come hunting for YOU later.

If MB wants US weapons, they should get them, dropped onto their heads from some good height. There was no war in Syria until MB showed up and ignited one.

An external observer would even understand if there was someone decent who is fighting against Assad. Someone with ideals that one can embrace. But right now it looks like Assad is trying to stop the classical, demonic forces of darkness, an amorphous mob of crazy entities who fight tooth and nail and kill everyone in their path. This is an unusual role for a dictator who comes from a family of dictators and is not known to be among the greatest aficionados of freedom.

The MB is squealing because Qatar and Egypt just cut it off.

Ten years ago we were waging war against those who want to destroy us - now we are arming them. Welcome to the age of Obama.

No way would I ever support the Muslim brotherhood. Christians had been protected in Syria under Assad.

“....Gulf allies Qatar and Saudi Arabia are already sending in arms.”

Obama may bow to the Saudis but I don’t. Too much of obama’s influence is from the Saudis.

If I remember correctly, 15 of the 19 terrorists on 911 were Saudis. I don’t trust them one bit.

Does anyone remember the four demands of Osama bin Laden?

One of them was that the West and the USA had to use our armed forces to overthrow the middle Eastern leaders that the islamonazis found to be insufficiently pious.

Incredibly, Obama is following Osama bin Laden’s playbook.

So Hussein is helping the islamonazis take power in MENA.

The next thing you know Hussein will be removing references to islamic terrorism in training manuals and providing security clearances to radicals....uh,oh, too late.
