George W. Bush on Gay Marriage, Immigration, and Why Obama Kept His Terrorism Policies
ABC News ^ | 7/7/2013 | Chris Good

President George W. Bush cautioned against criticizing gay couples, saying in an interview on “This Week” that you shouldn’t criticize others “until you’ve examined your own heart.”

Bush had waded into the revitalized same-sex marriage debate last week - if only barely - in a comment to a reporter in Zambia, who asked whether gay marriage conflicts with Christian values.

“I shouldn’t be taking a speck out of someone else’s eye when I have a log in my own,” Bush said last week.

In an interview in Tanzania with ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl, the former president explained his comment further.

“I meant it’s very important for people not to be overly critical of someone else until you’ve examined your own heart,” Bush told Karl.

As president, Bush opposed gay marriage, and Republicans pushed ballot measures to ban it at the state level. The topic has seen rejuvenated discussion after the Supreme Court overturned the federal ban on same-sex marriage, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

“In two words he branded Conservatives as heartless, unfeeling meanies, just like the Liberals have always portrayed us. Bush handed them a gift with that line.”

Very true. And when GHWB took his oath, his ‘kinder, gentler’ nation nonsense implied that Reagan was also a heartless and unfeeling meanie as well.

But Karl was satisfied.

They’ll be first on the - literal - chopping block. But I have always believed that gay males have a death wish...

No...bush is against gay marriage.

But he doesn’t want to use the power of his post presidency to bash gays on a personal level.

Your comment is Absolute BullSh*t

This does not say Bush is doing anything except talking about his own Christian values.

FR Sucks these days s because the slightest deviation from some poster’s so
called “CONSERVATISM” by anyone on the political front lines is rewarded with condemnation.

The number of people who are continually on the FR Sh#t list is ridiculous

And yet, he won’t tell the truth that gay marriage contradicts God’s word.

I do care when the gays want to adopt/purchase babies. That should not be allowed for the sake of the baby. If that opinion is MEAN, tough baloney. I care much more about that child that deserves a mommy and a daddy.

Precisely the point. Which is why Bush's statement is idiotic. We're not talking about SIN - we're talking about PUBLIC POLICY, which is supposed to serve the common good, not tiptoe around people's feelings.

The anus is not meant to be a sexual reproduction organ.

A commentator on this topic over at National Review Online says it exactly right:
Certain "rights" assumed by gays to be theirs aren't actually theirs. I'm speaking here about adoption, for example. The state has an obligation to tend to the rights of the child first. The child has the right to life, and, placed in a situation where the normal attendees to that process have stepped aside, the state must, like a normal mother and father, put that interest ahead of all others. The evidence for a mother and father, together, being the optimal situation abounds. Any data about children placed with gay couples is incomplete and highly politicized. Remember, as the cultural marxists proclaimed: "the personal is the political." Just because the state has abandoned such obligation in the case of abortion way beyond any competing "rights" of the mother, especially in the case of non-rape and incest occasions, doesn't mean more social experimentation in the name of equality for all regardless of the social consequences of their "lifestyle," is either good for society or the right thing to do. Or, after 5000 years of so-called societal "evolution," has moral relativism metastasized to the point where any discomfort in laying down the law has become intolerable to the majority?

Some of the sodomites do literally have a death wish, the ones called "bug catchers".

Oh, I don't suppose you have anything to say about what's happened to the troops under Obama? No. Wouldn't. Be. Prudent. Benghazi? All the casualties?

But Laura doesn't like that she was criticized for having all those illegal aliens take care of her family so she could read novels. So she sends W out to insist that we all approve of lawbreakers for nice Republican pro-choice and pro-same sex marriage ladies who thankfully don't hang with tea partiers...

Oh, this with Rubio and now W just frosts me. And Laura was only a good FL because she kept all this garbage to herself...

I would want a death wish too if I were a self loathing pervert. The problem is that homosexual men have no problem extending their death wish beyond themselves.

This is Bush showing he doesn’t even understand the Scripture he’s referencing. It’s telling us not to judge another’s sin if we are engaged in that particular sin ourselves....and then it goes on to tell us HOW to judge.

Laura must be bringing him around on the homo issue....maybe next up she’ll try to convince him abortion is okay.

I’ll never forget the story about Rudolf Nureyev going into Central Park - dying of AIDS - and picking up underage male prostitutes. When I lived in NYC during the 70s and 80s and 90s - I picked up a lot about that lifestyle that naïve, dumb politicians like George Bush know nothing about.

It’s actually the inverse...

I’m not sure where GWB is going but here is how I present it.

I struggle with sexual sin.

In fact, I’ve had compulsive episodes with pornography and have found myself hurting and needing help.

With the help of clergy, counseling and most importantly the Lord’s Grace, I was told I can change and I know I can steer clear of this sin.

The tragedy in the debate regarding those who struggle with same sex attraction and most every other sexual sin, is that our culture repeats the lie of your ‘born that way’ or ‘you’re going to do it any way.’

So we pass out condoms, pretend porn is OK and encourage young people to settle for less than what God created sex to be. These lies have exploded into what is known as the rape culture on college campuses, the repeated physiological pain of loss as a sexual relationship ends, the lack of total commitment in marriage which results in a 50% divorce rate among both Christians and non-Christians, all ultimately leading to a demographic winter which we will see on a rampage in Asia as the average age approaches and tumbles past what most people would consider the retirement age.

Not to mention the explosion in oral, neck and throat cancers that directly correlate to the acceptance of introducing fluids meant for the sexual systems of the body instead into the digestive systems of the body.

The tragedy that sets those with same sex attraction apart is that most counselors will help you if one is struggling with an urge to rape, or be unfaithful, or give ones self totally to one’s spouse. There are a multitude of ways, both ethical and unethical, to help couples that are infertile.

However, the teenager who brings his concerns about same sex identity to a counselor, or even more sadly a clergyman, may be encouraged to act on those feelings.

I would argue that society loves me and wants me to grow... far more than they love anyone who has same sex attraction.

Society tells me I can change, let’s pray for those who society lies to and tells they can not.

And of course California has outlawed therapy for homosexuals who want to change. And they have encouraged children to question their gender. And we’re supposed to be okay with that?
