only 47% of Americans have a full-time job and those who don't are finding it increasingly out of reach.

Of the 144 million Americans employed last month, only 116 million were working full-time. Friday's report showed that 58.7% of the civilian adult population of 245 million was working last month. Only 47% of Americans, however, had a full-time job.

...

In June, the number of Americans who wanted to work full-time, but were forced into part-time jobs because of the economy, jumped 352,000 to over eight million.

Just saying. Thanks.

This is the exact result Obama wants, less full time jobs equal more part time jobs equal higher employment!

Obama’s policies aim to make people used to being out of work, so that the present rate begins to seem normal.

yep part time crap wages for anyone ‘lucky’ enough to get a part time job, the pay being not even close to enough to live off of and keep one’s head above water

and if they have a mortgage or have 2 cents to rub together i.e. played by the rules
they get no healthcare, no foodstamps, no nothing except self respect

and that is priceless imnsho

The author needs to define the parameters a little more clearly. If he means working age adult 18-65, which I believe he does, then this is devastating.

If it's all adults, including retired, it's still bad but manageable with obama phones, food stamps, amnesty and free healthcare.

Is Obama counted as working full time? I heard he plays lot of golf and travels a lot and throws lots of parties at the White House.

Hard to tell if this number is good or bad without some comparison.

once you figure out all of this is deliberate, desired, and planned to achieve multiple goals at the same time. you’re ahead of most people.

and out of those 47% how many are real jobs, those not in government, not in non-profits or restaurants, not many.

government workers don't do anything except oppressing conservatives as in the IRS workers.

Obamacare turns 1 full time restaurant job into 2 part time restaurant jobs and then the media blasts “Economy booming”. The media is lying. and the sheep even the stupid stock market traders believe the media lies creating another bubble

Right on. He’s very good at what he does.

As a narcissist, he’s going to get very belligerent as he sees some of his plans falling apart. He takes everything very personally. He’s the worst kind of dangerous.

Peak civilian workforce participation was in April of 2000. 67.3

In October of 2008, workforce participation was 66.0

Now?

63.3

The last time workforce participation was this low was in May of 1979.

Peak labor force participation in May of 1956 was 60.2

We are closer to the 50s than we are to 2000.
We are closer to the 50s than we are to 2007.

The peak hit in 1955 wasn’t surpassed until 1969. A retrenchment of 13 years 3 months.

The peak in April of 2000, is exactly 13 years and 3 months as of this month. This is the longest retrenchment in workforce participation since the second world war.

The low, in 1962 was 58.4. This is lower than it was in 1948. That’s a retrenchment of 14 years.

Obama’s low now retrenches 33 years.

Really, the next landmark is that 60.3 mark achieved in 1956.

Average in 1979 - 63.7
Average in 2013 - 63.5

The last ytd with such low numbers was 1978.
