Didn't know this.
IIRC, from the re-enactment video, there were 3 foot tall hedges along the back of the apartments.
and.. if this were the case, why didn’t the prosecution hone in on that?
He’s lying. There are bushes and shadows everywhere at the attack site.
Trayvon jumping out of the bushes to attack him because those bushes dont exist...
Didn’t know this.
That is because it is not true. There are bushes around the air conditioning units next to the condos. Horowitz is usually good, but he dropped the ball on this.
Zimmerman’s class on defense law did NOT include the Florida statute known as Stand Your Ground. They discussed, in depth, the concept of the Castle Doctrine and self-defense, but the Florida Statue, specifically, was not part of the official syllabus.
If you Google Map 111 Retreat View Circle - where Zimmerman told the dispatcher he was calling from - the satellite view shows trees and bushes.
“Trayvon jumping out of the bushes to attack him because those bushes dont exist”
If you have a chance to read through the comments on the Horowitz site (and there’s a lot of them, and the pertinent one is pretty far down the string), there’s a fellow who very calmly and very methodically provides a refutation of Horowitz’s three main claims against Zimmerman - and that includes the bushes claim.
Horowitz has shown a lot of guts over a long period of time on a number of contentious issues, and in those, he’s been a powerful ally to the right. I think he’s dead wrong on this one, and I was sorry to see his take on the Zimmerman case.
But he is right in saying that the right has to be careful about automatically marching in lockstep on the matter. A contrarian take from someone like him did force me to think more deeply about the matter - and did persuade me to read the comments that followed his screed. And then in reading those comments it became even more clear that Zimmerman is getting railroaded.
I hope Horowitz watches the entire defense presentation. I still think he’s basically intellectually honest - I’ll be curious to see if he walks back his take on this stuff once all the evidence is in.
From Horowitz:
“Trayvon jumping out of the bushes to attack him because those bushes dont exist.”
comment from post by “Sasquatch” addressing the Horowitz piece:
“Let me now address a couple of the errors in this article, or possible errors:
“1.) The bushes do exist, David. There are bushes alongside the houses in that dog walk area, and Zimmerman never expressed certainty that Trayvon had been using them to hide. If you look at the totality of his first few statements, all within 24 hours of the incident, it is clear that when he initially mentioned bushes, this was his attempt to make sense of where this person had come from. He at that time wasn’t aware of the likelihood that Trayvon got home and came back to attack. He was called out to from behind, and turned to see Trayvon there. He was trying to make sense of how Trayvon had suddenly reappeared, and suggested the bushes as a possibility. Never did he say he was certain of it, and at the on scene walkthrough he made it clear it was merely the “darkness” that Trayvon had emerged from. So you’re doubly wrong on this, bushes were there, and he wasn’t firm on them anyway. It was him attempting to explain something to police.”
You mean the bushes where the police testified they found the “slim jim”? Those bushes don’t exist?
The bushes do exist....
Also, it was dark and raining that night....try seeing a black kid in a black hoodie with no light
