Bette Midler is taking a different approach.
The Parental Guidance star imagines a world in which the U.S. lost the war for its independence, but it's not like that's a bad thing. After all, she argues, that would mean we'd finally have socialized medicine.

My favorite alternate history book speculating on a failed American Revolution: "For Want of a Nail: If Burgoyne Had Won at Saratoga" by Robert Sobel. The novel depicts an alternate world where the American Revolution was unsuccessful. Although it is fiction, the novel takes the form of a work of nonfiction, specifically an undergraduate-level history of North America from 1763 to 1971. The fictional history includes a full scholarly apparatus, including a bibliography of 475 works and 860 footnotes citing imaginary books and articles; three appendices listing the leaders of the Confederation of North America, the United States of Mexico and Kramer Associates; an index; a contemporary map of the alternate North America; and a preface thanking imaginary people for their assistance with the book. The book also includes a critique of itself by Professor Frank Dana, an imaginary Mexican historian with two books listed in the bibliography.

I’m reminded of what a great Sage told me when I was a Tadpole “ If a Frog had wings he would bump his a$$!”.
Sage may also be interpeted as Sarge. :^}

Oh, Bette Midler - you mean we’d have Britain’s system, where thousands die in hospitals because they can’t even provide patients with adequate food and water, let alone medical care?

"Bette Midler: If We'd Lost The Revolutionary War, We'd Have Universal Health Care ...."... And we would all be speaking German and or Russian .... And Bette would never have had any music career cuz she would be working in a sweatshop somewhere ....... but at least she would have Universal Healthcare!!
... BTW ... Happy 237th Birthday America!!!! Thank God that we did win the Revolutionary War!!!

Bette needs to shut her fat trap. She doesn’t realize that every time she espouses her moronic opinion she is insulting half of her (former) large heterosexual fan base.

Whats new? Another insignificant nobody longs for inferior health care - for the unwashed masses, that is.
To: ColdOne
If we had lost the revolution we would be under Britain's socialized medicine plan and celebrities like Midler would be seeking their health care in private clinics in Switzerland or France because of the long waits and poor care under the socialized health care system in the US.
To: ColdOne
Midler should stop whining. She has her new King Obama who rules like the dictator king she so wishes for.

Without the United States, Hitler might have won WWII and achieved his goal of exterminating the Jews. We might still have universal health care, but we’d be spared Bette Middler.

Yeah, Bette...and if you'd chosen the only other career you're qualified for -- cleaning up monkey sh*t at the Bronx Zoo -- we wouldn't have to look at or listen to you. Apologies to those who clean up monkey sh*t at the Bronx Zoo...I didn't mean to disparage your work by associating Bette Midler with it.

“The Parental Guidance star...”
Why is it that popular culture calls these people “stars”? They are actors...just actors. That’s it. Not stars. Black holes? Maybe. But not stars.

I wish she would go the way of Janis or Jimmy... the good died young... the evil seem to go on forever.
