PITTSBURGH - Downtown Pittsburgh is taking another walk on the wild side with the annual Anthrocon.
Furries -- people who are fascinated with anthropomorphics -- have begun arriving for their yearly national convention at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. It begins Thursday and continues through the weekend.
"Folks who have never seen it before, don't be scared. If you see a 6-foot-tall raccoon walking by your window, no, you're not going crazy, it's just us," Anthrocon CEO Samuel Conway said.

Many of the thousands who will attend the convention are dressed in full or partial animal costumes as they walk through the streets of the Golden Triangle.
One furry who calls himself Exy, said, I am a Siberian husky from Alaska. I like to pull sleds, and I like to chase my own tail.
Exy said Pittsburgh's Antrhocon is special. I look forward to it every day, we plan for it almost a year in advance. Its like the best convention here in the United States.
This year, they'll be trying to set a Guinness World Record for the "World's Largest Fursuit Parade" on Saturday.
Why is Anthrocon so popular? "Everybody loves animals. Everybody loves costumes," Conway said. "We are all about creativity, we are all about imagination, we are all about dreaming. This weekend, in the city of Pittsburgh, this is our chance to share our dreams with you."
Anthrocon includes workshops, panel discussions, art exhibitions and vendors catering to fans of the human-like animal characters.
VisitPittsburgh estimates the convention has brought more than $25 million in direct spending to the city since it first arrived in 2006. Anthrocon has also raised more than $140,000 for animal-related charities since making Pittsburgh its host city.

Sorry, I was a little harsh.
I’m just frustrated beyond belief by the pieces of this nation that don t “get it”. They’re leeches on this well-crafted body politic and they’re going to kill America.
The irony here is that if there is ever any real rebellion, it is going to come from a “blue” state. Because there are enough “red” who are sick of it. Sick of being outnumbered, outvoted, never counting, never being represented.
I totally feel ya on the frustration part. Things seem to be getting worse by the day, too, don’t they??
Just pray. It’s all we can do. Pray for conversion for our country & pray for the grace to do God’s will & work.
Imagine wearing one in JULY!!!
Amen.
Lol!
Makes more sense to convene in Quebec City in January.
What a stupid name for their convention: the attendees are theriomorphic people, not anthropomorphic animals.
Actually most of W. Pa. went Republican and most of the greater Pittsburgh area. The leftists, low informed voters, union losers in the city went left. Pa. has a republican governor, house and senate.
Western Pa. has a majority of republican congressmen. Most all urban areas in the country are the same, even down south. Pa. has a big gun and hunting culture and a traditionalist tendency so back down a bit reb.

Mooch wouldn’t even need a costume.
I've yet to read of any furries playing the knock-out game........
We should set up an anti-fur con rally and protest this sick convention
according to the site the next one is July 3-6
