I am from the south. I was reared in a small southern town. Paula Deen and I are about the same age. As I look at my Facebook page, I see you guys from my high school -- liberal schoolteachers, liberal Cosmo-reading sophisticates, state workers, law-enforcement officers, elected officials, and big-time corporate executives.
Once we shared space and lives in a small southern town. Each one of you should be thankful that you never reached Paula Deen's celebrity status. If you had, today you would be in the midst of a crapstorm from hell.
In our town the n-word was used: not as frequently as many of you readers imagine but it was used. Every one of us used it at one time or another. We didn't coin the word. We didn't invent bigotry or racism. We simply were reared in a small Southern town.
Though the term was used, it was not applied to every African-American. It was used sort of like "trailer trash" is used today to describe poor Southerners.
Many of you will be horrified to learn that my family had a maid. Her name was Maisy. We loved her. Long after she left our employ, we would send her money so she could go on trips with her church or get a space heater. We would occasionally stop by and drop off bananas, canned goods, and visit.

Here are the facts... can anybody tell us why she deserves to be ostracized?

Paula has compelling personal story. In 1989, she was divorced with two children and $200. She started out selling sandwiches to workers and rolled it into an empire. I saw her and her boys at Uncle Bubba’s once. That’s as close as I have come to a celebrity.
Paula was at a deposition. She was asked if she had ever used the n-word. What was her attorney thinking? Why would he let her answer that question? What does that have to do with anything? Every person in the U.S. and the English-speaking world has used it at one time or another.
Paula answered honestly. There was a bank robbery. A man with a gun. The n-word was spoken. America gasped! How could she? She immediately became an outcast. Her cooking show was cancelled. Wal-mart dropped her. Her pots and pans were marked for clearance. She was skewered on late night TV.
This could have been any one of us.
Here in NY...N is used to define the bad ones. No one would even think of saying that about a decent one.

Why you ask? Well, a lot of FReeprs say it's because she voted for HUSSEIN - nothing more. You can go back and look at previous threads, the ignorance here is stunning to say the least.

The left doesnt care that she used the word, its just an excuse to destroy anyome they perceive as a conservative. Note the requirement that conservatives must lead perfect lives or be destroyed. But no one leads a perfect life so like the article states we are all Paula Dean. Use the n-word 20 years ago- condemned. Alec Baldwin uses a gay slur 20 minutes ago, no consequences. Ancient Rome used to throw Christians to the lions, now they feed them to the Leftists in the media.
She is being railroaded.
However, she should not have groveled for forgiveness on the Today show or on YouTube.

Lets look at the bigger picture here. Hate is being used as a tool to prosecute someone in violation of their First Amendment rights. Would a black peron be “put on trial” for saying “cracka” or “honkey” in the past. Of couse not.
Somehow you know the 0 administration is laughing at Paula Deen because she’s allowed herself to be manipulated by her fear and she played right into their race game which they are trying to use to trample your First Amendment rights. Once she started blubbering on TV they turned it into a spectacle and the sharks started circling hungry for blood. I wouldn’t apologize for it. I’d explain why i called that person a n- if they were acting up and say those were different times and that I no longer use that term out of respect for the good black people that it might offend. End of story.

My father, who was of a different age, used the hated and forbidden N-word in his common speech—but it wasn’t used to define all black people only A-holes. He once told me the worst N——ers were white. Now I am inclined to believe in his definition.

It’s amazing how people can get so upset over a certain word, but have no problem with other words, namely calling conservatives Nazis, etc.
I'm waiting for Wal-Mart to pull all of those "Rap/Hip Hop" CD's that use the N word in their so called music. And...how bout all of the movies that contain the same?

Her problem in all this was her ill fated apology and looking for sympathy, she should have known she would never get it, and that her being from the south would be used to reinforce the “white southern racist” stereo type that progressives are. She should have laughed at the first time it came back on her and acted shocked and said, “What?? Wait a minute here, that’s was a long time ago and I don’t know where you’ve been lately but that’s what American blacks call themselves every day, on every school campus, on every cable TV show and in every rap song, right now! Not 25 years ago”…and she should have went further stating that this a false power that some in our society condone, giving one ethnic group the power to say words among themselves that other ethnic groups are forbidden to say, and that this word is more engrained in the pop culture and is used today more than it ever was in past….etc. Blatantly laugh at and expose the hypocrisy……That should be the debate.
No tears here. She supported the half negro in the White House.

there are multiple agendas at work from other quarters which will snag people like Paula Deen every time. The author fails to note that she was asked at a deposition whether she ever used the “N” word, and she truthfully answered YES. But the attorney asked it not expecting an honest answer-—he must have had proof that she’d used it at some point in the past.
So it’s a win-win for those with a certain agenda, and a lose-lose for Paula.
I still say Michelle Obama is behind this..

Deen reportedly told a the Washington Examiner that Michelle packed away the food when the cameras stopped rolling, which left the White House incensed. Deen even recently told the Washington Examiner, “[Michelle Obama] probably ate more than any other guest I ever had on the show! She kept eating even during commercials. Know what [the Obamas’] favorite foods are? Hot wings.” She paints a picture of Obama that’s a far cry from the first lady who was photographed holding a worm she pulled from a vegetable garden yesterday.
