~ Hall of Heroes ~ Clifford Chester Sims Info from this website. |
|
Clifford Chester Sims (June 18, 1942 – February 21, 1968) was a United States Army soldier and a recipient of America's highest military decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions in the Vietnam War. |
Sims joined the Army from Jacksonville, Florida and by February 21, 1968 was serving as a Staff Sergeant in Company D, 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On that day, during an engagement with enemy forces near Hu, in the Republic of Vietnam, Sims threw himself onto a triggered booby-trap device. He was killed in the ensuing explosion, but was successful in protecting the members of his squad. Clifford Sims, aged 25 at his death, was buried in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida.

Oh, silly me! I stubbed the toe of my shoe on an uneven tile and when I started falling I grabbed the counter...wrenching my arm. It’s very sore, but the doctor at the ER said it was only a sprain. At least it broke my fall and I didn’t hurt my knees...I know I landed on them. It’s hard to lift my arm even to type for any length of time.

He’s a terrific young man. Soon to be a medic.
I told him that he’d better be a medic because I’ll be so happy to see him when he gets home that I’ll have a heart attack. :(

It takes special people to become medics.
One of my friends up here had a son go there to become a medic.
Wishing all the best for your son. It seems like only yesterday that he was MUCH younger. d:o)

*gentle hug*
My poor Sis!
I wish I was there to spoil you
and make you a nice cup of tea and give you a warm compress.
I take it your place of work will take care of the bills, etc.
Right?

Oh, yes. We have a private workman’s comp insurance company that is taking care of things for me.
I’d love to be spoiled by my sis! ((((hugs)))
I’m sure it’ll be better in a few days. I have a follow up to an ortho to be done to make sure that there wasn’t any real damage, though they took x-rays in the ER.
I just felt so foolish...and scared the customers. LOL!

"It seems like only yesterday that he was MUCH younger. d:o)" I'm trying to figure out where the last eighteen years of my life went. I am proud of what he's becoming but it's time for me to step into the shadows while he shines. And he will.
