Huge Crowds Turn Out in Egypt in Largely Peaceful Protests Against Morsi
McClatchy ^ | Sunday, June 30, 2013 | Nancy A. Youssef

In highly anticipated protests to mark the first anniversary of President Mohammed Morsi’s inauguration, millions of Egyptians took to the streets across the country in unprecedented numbers Sunday to demand his removal from office, three years before his term expires.

The protests were largely peaceful after days of worries that they would unleash violence between pro- and anti-Morsi camps. But in those places where they came together, the two sides kept their distance, with Morsi’s supporters vastly outnumbered by the president’s opponents.

This normally bustling city set aside its usual business what in Egypt is the first day of the work week as seas of protesters flocked to Tahrir Square and the presidential palace in scenes repeated across the country. Chants, honking and cheers could be heard at every corner. Local news channels here showed as many as 16 split screens of ongoing protests across the country.

As the day’s sweltering summer heat broke with sunset, the crowds only grew, and by nightfall, the numbers nationwide appeared to have surpassed those of 2011, when 18 days of demonstrations led to the fall of former Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak.

“Ir-hal, Ir-hal,” they chanted – the Arabic word for ‘Leave’ – so loud that it could be heard far from the actual demonstration. Many carried the Egyptian flag, red, white and black punctuation to the crowds.

It was uncertain that the peaceful nature of the protests would hold. A crowd threw Molotov cocktails at the Cairo headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood, the secretive religious group through which Morsi rose to prominence, and there were reports that Brotherhood supporters inside responded with fire from pellet guns. Two provincial Brotherhood offices also were reported burned, and one person was killed in Beni Suef, 75 miles south of Cairo.

Many of those protestors have Anti Obama signs..which the media won’t be showing..even they get that Obama is a dictator..he wanted Morsi since Morsi believes in the same things Obama believes in:

I posted some of those pictures in reply #60.

We need to write all our representatives that we do not want our troops in Egypt. They need to stand up to this mess for us. This sickens me!

"Imagine that..."

I didn't have to imagine, it was in the cards once the "Arab Spring" unfolded. The entire area is going to explode in the name of Allah. You will see mass murdering between Shiites and Sunnis and anyone caught in the cross-fire, including Israel.

Israel is the only hope for that area, if they have the balls to go Dresden on those barbarians. The UN and world opinion be damned.

Like Rush Limbaugh just said on the radio - they want to bring down the government they elected last year...”Buyer’s Remorse,” heh?

Hmmm?

I think the Egyptians are on to something that Americans may want to copy...

You're right on this cradle - but it's not intentional - they're clueless...

For the record, the folks in the street are “the people”

They have had a bellyfull of the Brotherhood zealots.

Further for the record, the Amerocentric view of the events is foolish. Obama has no nfluence at all in the events

Morsi will not go down without a fight. He feels empowered by Barack Hussein Obama who has sent advanced weapons to Morsi, and now troops to Egypt at US Taxpayer expense to support the Muslim Brotherhood.

Morsi will soon find out that Barack is a reed in the wind, and an empty suit when Obama takes to the links as Morsi is taken down. If Obama let over 100,000 Syrians die, does anyone think he gives two craps about how many Egyptians are killed? Supporting terrorists in any country always ends up with dead bodies in the street. History will prove this is Obama's legacy.
