THE GANG OF EIGHT’S BILL WILL NEVER BECOME LAW
Powerline ^ | 06/28/2013 | JOHN HINDERAKER

Posted on 06/28/2013 12:06:29 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Not unless House Republicans have completely taken leave of their senses, in which case, for the first time in my lifetime, talking about a new party won’t be crazy.

As many flaws as the Gang’s bill has, we can never repeat too often that it is fundamentally misconceived in a manner that cannot be made right with a fence or even with improved interior enforcement, valuable as those things may be in their own right. The fundamental problem with the bill is what it does with legal immigration. Instead of reforming our Ted Kennedy-inspired, irrational 60s-era immigration regime, it perpetuates it and even makes it worse. Thus, the Bill authorizes somewhere between 30 million and 60 million new legal immigrants over the next ten years, 90% of them low-skill and low-wage. The Democrats hope this will create a mammoth and permanent underclass that will be forever dependent on government for security, and will reliably vote Democrat for generations. Certain business interests hope the bill will deal a crippling blow to America’s working class, driving down wages and providing an inexhaustible supply of cheap labor.

That isn’t admirable, but it makes a certain kind of sense. And we know that Democrats are contemptuous of blue-collar workers and don’t care what happens to them. Cheaper household help for bicoastal liberals? What’s not to like? But why should Republicans acquiesce in this vicious assault on America’s working class?

I am not sure why more Republicans haven’t joined in Jeff Sessions’ lonely crusade to expose the deeply misguided, if not malignant, heart of the Gang’s legislation. On this issue, as on several others over the last few years, Sessions has been the bellwether. Today he spoke at length against the Gang’s bill. In this brief excerpt, he sounded what I think (and Sessions thinks) is the most important theme: the bill was crafted by special interests to serve the Democratic Party and certain narrow economic interests by driving down the wages of America’s blue collar workers:

If a majority of House Republicans support an immigration bill and push it through the House, the stage will be set for a conference committee and final approval. Obama will sign amnesty.

Boehner made his little politically calculated statement about passing a bill with majority support from Republicans.

IF BOEHNER GETS THE BALL ROLLING ON THAT BASIS AND GETS A BILL PASSED, ANY BILL, EVEN WITH DIFFERENCES FROM THE SENATE VERSION THEN THE GAME IS UP. AMNESTY WILL WIN IN THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS AND BE SIGNED BY OBAMA.

well we have lost most of our 3 parts of government, the executive is gone, the judicial is gone and half of Congress is gone if we lose the House of Representatives, all of our checks and balances are gone including fair elections (voter fraud)

line in the sand time.

I believe that the sole purpose of this bill is to damage the Republican Party prior to the 2014 elections.

The House will block it and then Reid and the RATS will scream all the way to the elections about the racist Republicans.

Boehner will come up with his own plan to implement Obama’s Amnesty Agenda.

D & R differ in implementation details not agenda.

1) No House bill, no Senate bill
2) Enforce Existing Law

I believe you are correct on what you say. I do remember Zero saying he would weaken/destroy the Republicans and they are helping him every step of the way.

If the R’s were smart (yes, that’s laughable), they would pull out the most foolish and egregious aspects of this bill and use them to mercilessly beat every democrat and RINO Republican Senator in the 2014 election cycle.

But then, that statement was based on the false premise of intellect by most of the R’s.

No, I don't think so. That's a stretch.

Fraud, forgery, perjury, conspiracy, obstruction of justice. This I believe is the real scandal of a lifetime and a constitutional crisis. No one...I mean no one wants to touch this lil gem.

Not sure whether Obozo is a foreign citizen by birth or not (I tend to think that he is), it is entirely possible that he is indeed an American citizen but used the facade of being a foreign student to gain federal assistance in which case the above crimes still come into play.

It would just shift from usurper of the constitution to high crimes and misdemeanors.

In any case, there are so many people involved in this coverup, it would make the JFK assassination and watergate look like child's play.

Chairman Carter: Senate immigration bill dead on arrival to House; continues work on comprehensive House immigration bill 06/28/13

Notice the part after the semicolon: continues work on comprehensive House immigration bill

Carter has a near 100% conservative voting record until now. He has said recently that this House "comprehensive" bill will will contain no path=to-citizenship. Who knows, nobody has seen this bill yet.

But some things trouble me about this:

1) They think the word "comprehensive" is a good thing

2) If this new House bill passes, even without a path-to-citizenship, could it go into conference with a senate committee approved by Schumer, and come out with a path-to-citizenship? After that, I doubt Boehner would stop the House from voting on it (think Dems + 35 GOP traitors/porkophiles/extortionees in the House).

I don't think Boehner has promised not to bring a conference-approved bill for vote.

With our courts as screwed up as they are, I don’t see any situation developing where foreigners remain here and don’t get some sort of pathway to citizenship.

Some judge will say that’s inhuman, and sets up a second class resident situation. It will be struck down just like DOMA was.

Who are they trying to kid? We’re not that stupid.

Yes, I have posted the same concern on some thread. If the House passes such a bill ("comprehensive" but without a path-to-citizenship), maybe the best possible outcome would be that the house and senate can't agree on any bill and give up. Obama, and of course the media, are ready to escalate the demagoguery in that case.

THE GANG OF EIGHT’S BILL WILL NEVER BECOME LAW

No offense at all intended to OP, but it seems for last decade, every time I see any positive headline, it fails to materialize.

In all likelihood after a House bill is incestuously mated with the Senate bill, the offspring will kill us all seconds after it is born.

Sorry, but some days its hard to keep your head up.

Chris Hayes again points out something you wont hear on FNC.

He pointed out how as soon as this bill passed McCain and Grahamnesty jumped on camera to rejoice and demand the House pass the bill.

But he says ‘where's Rubio? He has suddenly disappeared”

Yep, the Senate bill isnt going over well with the House GOP. Total piece of crap. Time for Rubio to hide for a while

They also pointed out how if Dems want the house to pass immigration they best tell McCain and Grahmnesty to shut up because they make many in the house GOP want to do the opposite to spite them. Insightful for sure.
