The vast majority of Americans, 81%, say they are aware of the 2010 Affordable Care Act's (ACA's) requirement that most Americans must carry health insurance or pay a fine. Americans who are currently uninsured -- those most directly affected by this requirement -- are much less likely to be aware of the provision, with 56% saying they know about it and 43% saying they are unaware.
The results are based on a June 20-24 Gallup poll, which asked a series of questions on the ACA, the comprehensive healthcare reform bill signed into law by President Obama in 2010. Many of the law's key provisions will go into effect January 2014. Gallup previously reported that more Americans thought the law would make the healthcare situation worse than better for themselves and the nation.
The subgroups that are less likely to be aware of the health insurance requirement are also the subgroups that are least likely to be insured, including Hispanics, blacks, young adults, and those in lower-income households.
The federal government is ramping up its efforts to increase awareness among the uninsured to purchase health insurance. Those who lack insurance can find and purchase a plan for 2014 through a government website starting Oct. 1.
Three in Four Americans at Least Somewhat Familiar With the ACA
From a broader perspective, most Americans say they are at least somewhat familiar with the ACA as a whole -- with 16% saying they are very familiar with it and 59% saying they are somewhat familiar with it. Those who currently have insurance are more likely to say they are familiar with the law than those who are uninsured.

Lol! The democrat party that lives by the low-information voter, shall die by the low-information voter.
And who is going to pay the premiums for them?
The under $30k set, or Joe Taxpayer?
I laugh at folks who think the Left will soon see Obamacare as a bad thing when their payments or fines kick in. What payments or fines?
Ya, I was thinking that too. It’s the low information voters who are not aware of what’s coming, and what they will be expected to do. They have no clue how much they will be expected to pay in health insurance premiums, or that they will now have to pay for same or be fined.
They will not be fined or taxed.
They will be made Korrect citizens....
They are also unlikely to file income tax forms, or bother with anything else like that, either.
You go to fine them, they’ll pull out a couple a raggedy singles from the pocket of their jeans.
ONly if they can come up with a thousand dollars a month. I'm sure everyone has enough flexibility in their monthly budget to come up with that no problem.
He said it would be free.....duuuuuhhh......
RE: I laugh at folks who think the Left will soon see Obamacare as a bad thing when their payments or fines kick in
It’s not a fine any longer. Justice Roberts and company re-imagined the law to be a “TAX” without requiring a re-write — in effect, legislating from the bench.
How will “pay the fine” be enforced?
What if they don’t earn enough to pay taxes? But instead get an earned income tax credit. Will that credit be reduced to cover the fine?
One CPA told me that the IRS doesn’t have the power in the ACA law to actually levy and collect the fine.

Its not called a fine any longer. Justice Roberts and company re-imagined the law to be a TAX without requiring a re-write in effect, legislating from the bench.
Just send all those fines, “taxes,” to the five members of the Supreme Court who passed that tax, because the House certainly didn’t. Where do you take a case of blatant unconstitutional law-making by the SCOTUS?
There are going to be a lot of PO'ed Obama voters when they have their taxes done and find out their refund is cut by several hundred dollars or they have to pay. However, I really wouldn't put it past the liberal media to try and blame Republican, and being the low information voters they are, they will gladly swallow it without doing any further research.
I would make a guess that there are around a million Americans who don’t turn in tax forms or make any public revenue....cash and carry only. Guys who work the flea market system and generate $50k a year....never telling neither the state or the federal government. These folks will never engage on any of this requirement business. That’s why it’ll never be a success.
It does not matter since nothing can happen to you if you don’t pay the fine.
Good point.
Tell me who pays when folks who get Earned Income Tax Credit, can’t afford to pay insurance premiums or this “TAX” (as if).
Dollars to donuts, there’s a provision for these folks to get on a government funded program.
Once again, the middle class takes it up the...
you are correct, the only thing the IRS can do is to withhold your refund if you refuse.
