On the third day of testimony in the George Zimmerman murder trial, the prosecution called what could be the most pivotal witness of all: Rachel Jeantel, the friend who was on the phone with 17 year-old Trayvon Martin until moments before Zimmerman shot and killed him. In the early part of her testimony, Jeantel described her conversation with Trayvon, in which he notices a man looking at him, a man Jeantel says Martin described as a “creepy, white, kill-my-neighbors cracker,” and a “creepy-ass cracker,” to which she joked that he “might be a rapist.”
The credibility of Jeantel’s testimony is crucial, because it establishes George Zimmerman as the aggressor, and contradicts the defense’s contention that Mr. Zimmerman did not pursue Trayvon Martin after the police dispatcher instructed him that they didn’t need him to do that. The phone call also represents a two-minute overlap between the time Zimmerman hung up woth the dispatcher, and when he made contact with Trayvon Martin.
The prosecution asked Rachel Jeantel what Trayvon Martin was complaining to her about on the phone, as he walked home.
“That a man just kept watching him,” she replied.
After the judge overruled a defense objection, the prosecutor continued, “Did you say anything back to him or did he say anything back to you?”
“Yes,” Jeantel replied. “I asked him how the man looked like. He just told me the man — the man looked creepy.”(continued)

I disagree. Several times, West was able to ask ‘so you lied about that?’...and she said ‘yes’.
She admitted to lying to Martin’s mother about her age, and lying to her about being in the hospital. And she admitted to lying to Crump about her age. He got away with asking her about each of these several times. He is trying to establish that she is a liar.
Right at the end of the day, he was beginning to explore the two versions of what she heard Zimmerman say to Martin...and when he gets to it, he’ll ask which versioj is true and which one is a lie....and once again show the jury she is a liar.
He can’t go too hard on her, since that would be seen as bullying. And why not let uer twlk and talk. She may contradict herself and prove herself to bea liar one more time.
All the talking heads panel on Greta right now agree West was flatter than flat today and are saying Jeantel did a great job. They are also saying the instances of her lying under oath are unimportant and won’t mean anything. No way in hell is Zimmerman out of the woods.
Doesn’t matter. To blacks he’s not a “real” black just as Hispanics don’t consider him a “real” Hispanic. Both blacks and Hispanics believe he’s a white cracker.
She does something like that every day. She’s still in a snit over the 5th’s slapdown.
I just assume the juries are full of blithering idiots, so whether or not the prosecution or defense is doing well is moot...it’s all about the jury’s feeeelings.
Thats the truth. Feelings will trump facts virtually every time. Shouldn’t be that way, but thats the way it is. Jeantel crying on the stand over the death of her boyfriend will score points with the jury. And the jury seeing just how big Zimmerman is (he looks like he put on 100 pounds since that night)are going to find it hard to believe that skinny little Martin could beat the crap out of him.
He’s being very careful to assure that Crump’s inevitable claim that an evil white man beat up on a poor sistah won’t get much mileage. I think West’s doing a masterful job.
He also called Zimmerman a “nig-—” too.....that was in W8 testimony ...which the liberal media refuses to report

All the local Orlando analysts.....who actually watch the trial....all concluded W8 was an epic disaster....and some are attys not thrilled with the defense team. Of course....a few of them know its gets worse Thurs morning

I hope you’re right- I seriously have my doubtsw abotu west- hopefully his flatness, boring demeanor is all an act settign up for a slam dunk- but so far I’m not impressed with him - but I don’t know the lawyer or his tactics, so I’ll wait and see if he delivers or not- I can’t imagine omara workign with him if he isn’t good- who knows-
The way I understand it (not a lawyer), is that its not hearsay to testify to what was said in a conversation provided the words of the conversation itself is what the witness is bearing witness to. But if the witness is there to establish something that was merely described to them in the conversation, then the conversation is hearsay relative to establishing that something.

Uhm, while I am disgusted that Zimmerman is only being charged for fear of the ignorant outcry of a prejudiced mob, I have to take issue with a statement like this. There are very many great Americans who happen to be black, just as there a many great Americans who happen to be white, or half white and half Hispanic or whatever other combination. It is not a question of "Negros" vs "Americans". It is a question of civilized responsible people against cheats, liars, drug dealers and gang bangers and totalitarian bureaucrats and so forth.
Oh Really? Hmmm I think this could be an appeal issue. It’s hearsay because the person saying it cannot be cross examined and Miss Dee Dee has no proof that what Martin was saying is what was actually happening.
I’ve heard of cases being thrown out on appeal because a dead person’s note or voice mail was allowed into evidence. We’ll see.
I agree with you. You read comments under the articles about this trial and you see that many people are not very bright. Even on websites that follow trials where mostly females post there is a very anti Zimmerman mentality. It’s not going to be easy for the defense to overcome the low information voter juror.
And it will be hard to over come the desire to placate the mob and convict.
