Responding to harsh criticism from Tea Party activists and conservatives, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) defended his support of the current immigration bill on the Senate floor Wednesday. He appealed directly to the people who helped him get elected, saying their opinions really matter to me.
Over the last few days, I have received numerous emails and calls from conservatives and tea party activists from across the country regarding immigration, Rubio began. And they are increasingly unhappy about the immigration reform proposal in the Senate. Marco Rubio Defends Himself Against Tea Party Attacks on Senate Floor

He said conservatives are not against the immigration bill because they are anti-immigrant, but rather because they believe the U.S. has a right to secure its borders and a right to enforce federal immigration law.
Rubio defended the Senates immigration bill, claiming that there has been false claims about the legislation.
This proposal mandates the most ambitious border and interior security measures in our nations history, he said. For example, it requires and funds the completion of 700 miles of real border fence, it adds 20,000 new border agents, it details a specific technology plan for each sector of the border, it requires e-Verify for every employer in America and it crates a tracking system to identify people who overstay their visas.
He said people living illegally in the U.S. are already enjoying de-facto amnesty.
To hear the worry, anxiety, and growing anger in the voices of so many people who helped me get elected to the Senate, who I agree with on virtually every other issue, has been a real trial or me, he said.

Ska-rew that. Put a decent bounty on em.
I would vote against anything that grants amnesty because I think it destroys your ability to enforce the existing law and I think its unfair to the people who are standing in line and waiting to come in legally. I would vote against anything that has amnesty in it.
Marco, there’s a shining star in Texas who listens to the people - not the blackmail, bribes and bullies (so far, at least). Step aside and make way for Sen. Cruz. Your star has fizzled out.
I do think he sincerely believes is doing what he thinks is right...until he realizes the democrats have played him for a fool...
It will be a lesson well learned and hopefully make him a better Senator...
If he can survive being primaried next election cycle...
He certainly will not be getting my vote again...
Brilliant...thank you
I'm in constant awe that they think another national database of the American people, and a requirement that you be in there and approved before you can earn your daily bread, is a positive selling point for their Amnesty plan.
has anyone asked rube why he hired a former employee of geo. soros to be his chief of staff?
A fifth-columnist.
You mean he opens his mouth and words come out.
He is doing what is financially best for himself. As a liberal in the Senate he need serve only one term while voting as directed and he will be a wealthy man when he loses his next election. Actually he eliminates himself from any possibility of winning an election in the future if his amendment passes unless he changes his identity minimally to Democrat. Republicans at a national level and increasingly at state level will not win elections because, no matter how leftist they sound to their new constituents, they are not the official Socialist Party, the Democrats, Socialism is not the only aim of the socialists. They also answer Lenin's old question-"Who, whom?"
These “RINOs” stand to make a lot more money in their careers being toadies to the Democrats than they do maintaining principles. One term is all it takes to make them quite wealthy if they toe the correct line.
I suspect he will chănge his registration to "Democrat" to be eligible for the votes of millions of newly minted voters in Florida.
Marco McSchumer acts just like Senator Charles F. Meachum in the movie Shooter.
‘There are only the haves and have nots, what side are you on Boy!’
Well, well, well! Here's my opinion (soon-to-be "former") Senator Rubio.
YOU'RE TOAST!!!
I'll do everything in my power to primary you and see that Allen West replaces you!!!!!
LOL! That’s always been one of my favorite episodes. I always felt it was a direct jab at the hippies at the time, doing drugs and wasting time which is exactly what the guy says at the end when he comes off the spores “All this time wasted...we’ve accomplished nothing!” ZING!
What isn’t true?
The legalization occurs before any border security. It’s unconditional. Once the bill passes and is signed into law within 6 months they all become legal and get instant amnesty, never to be revoked. Does Rubio dispute that?
There is no requirement that any new fencing be built. None. It’s all up to the discretion of the Secretary of Homeland Security. Does Rubio dispute that?
Anyone who falls into the DREAMers category(pretty much anyone between up to their mid 30s I belive, possibly even older)is eligible for citizenship within 5 years, not the 13 they keep touting. And once those folks become citizens they can instantly get their spouses, family members along with them. Does Rubio dispute that?
And, the bill also states that after 10 years, regardless of any border security or enforcement measures, if there are any lawsuits in the works challenging any aspect of the bill, that they’re all eligible for citizenship at that point, regardless of boder security or any other factors.
Now, if Rubio were honest about those and said he still supports it, fine. But continually dissembling is another thing.
It’d be very easy to write a bill saying that until all 700 miles of the fence is completed and proven effective that there will no be change in the status of anyone. The fact that isn’t in the bill tells you all you need to know.
The Rube has definitely crossed over to the dark side. This (Rube's text to Mark) was just further proof, for me.
Rubio, such a disappointment
