Patriots' Hernandez taken into custody

American football player Aaron Hernandez has been taken from his home in handcuffs after a Boston semi-pro football player was found dead in an industrial park a mile from his house.

Family members say the dead man, 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, was dating a woman whose sister is Hernandez's fiancee. Officials ruled the death a homicide but did not say how Lloyd died.

It's unclear why Hernandez, who plays for the New England Patriots, was being taken into custody Wednesday morning and put into the back of a marked police car.

State police have searched in and around Hernandez's home in North Attleborough several times. At least three search warrants have been issued in connection with the investigation.

Really it’s just being smart. In Goodell’s NFL with the player conduct policy no matter what the charges are he’ll be suspended for a good long time (at least half a season, probably indefinitely) so might as well get him off the roster. Plus it helps separate them during the trial, so hopefully the press won’t be asking for player and coach reactions every day.

The Cowboys didn’t do it with that killer Josh Brent. I think he’s still technically on their roster.

He is from New Britain which is the next town over from Bristol. New Britain is a small city outside of Hartford. It has a large Hispanic population and a lot of gang activity.

The Cowboys aren’t as well run an organization as the Pats. Brent has already proven to be a distraction with all that “should he or shouldn’t he be on the sideline” stuff, and if his trial hits during the season it will continue.

If he is charged with murder...the trial will be BIGGER than OJ..wonder if Marcia Clark's hired an agent?

I'm curious why you think that. Just because of the increase in media?

Not a chance.

OJ was a football star and had roles in movies galore. Everyone knew who OJ was, only football wonks know who Hernandez is.

Everything I have seen has said he’s from Bristol. How did he end up going to Bristol Central HS?

I know it’s certainly possible - everyone in southeastern CT is listed as from New London because that is where the hospital is. (Is the nearest hospital for NB in Bristol?)It’s also fairly common for the families of top athletes to relocate (or pretend to do so) into districts with better teams/coaches for their sports. I’m just curious what the deal was with him.

He might live in Bristol. I was going by an article I read that talked about his gang ties in New Britain. It made it seem like he lived in New Britain. He sounds like an idiot no matter where he grew up.

Marc Rich died this morning too.

That's actually more interesting than the story.

Interesting character. Didn't realize he was 78.

nsa will supply the phone records................

In 1940, Coventry got blitzed by Onkel Adolf's forces. Sir Winston knew about the attack before it happened, but undertook no defensive measures, lest the Krauts suspect how he knew.

Of course, thanks to Eddie Snowden, the above may no longer be relevant. Which is just as well, given Sir Winston is not POTUS.
