Looks like there is a slippery slope after all and gay marriage really could lead to polygamy. According to U.S. News and World Report, polyamory advocate Anita Wagner Illig said that gay marriage is setting the standard to make polygamy and polyamory legal.
We polyamorists are grateful to our [LGBT] brothers and sisters for blazing the marriage equality trail, said Illig, who is the head of polyamory advocacy group called Practical Polyamory.
Anticipating the Supreme Courts decision on same-sex marriage this week, US News reporter Steven Nelson interviewed Illig to see how polyamorists and polygamists feel about the possibility of redefining marriage. Nelson reported that Illig admitted the polyamory community has expressed little desire for legal marriage until now, but that in light of gay marriage gaining wider acceptance, more options seem possible in the future.
Illig insisted that the legalization of gay marriage would set an undeniable precedent for polyamorists seeking legal multi-partner marriage.
A favorable outcome for marriage equality is a favorable outcome for multi-partner marriage, she argued, because gay marriage would then provide precedent for other forms of non-traditional relationships.
Illig, whose husband has a girlfriend, believes that the legal acceptance for polygamy would eliminate a common challenge polyamorists face, and would be more likely to happen should the Supreme Court rule in favor of gay marriage this week.
Despite denials from left-wingers like CNNs Piers Morgan and MSNBCs Luke Russert, its getting harder and harder for liberals to ignore reality: legalizing gay marriage will lead to legalizing polygamy. Lefty newspaper Slates writer Jillian Keenan openly advocated legalizing polygamy earlier this year, and Huffington Posts Abby Huntsman admitted that legalizing gay marriage would open the door to polygamy and other things.
Not to mention, of course, MSNBCs Melissa Harris-Perry who asserted that We do want to change marriage. With gay couples and now multi-partner marriage on the horizon, one wonders whether marriage will even be recognizable by the time the left is done changing it.
Periodic orgies are now marriage.
I don’t care about polygamy that much. It is MUCH more healthy and natural than gay marriage could ever be. Why won’t allow one to have a number of wives if one is able to support them? It is exactly that part of private life lawmakers and government has to stay out of.
The problem is there are numerous other really dangerous perversions such as animal sex and paedophilia. Gay ‘marriage’ is surely a quantum leap in normalizing it.
IMO Polygamy is much more natural than Same sex.
The proper organs are used.
Probably 50% of todays married people have diddled around during their marriage, Is that so different from polygamy? Except for the deceit it is not. Why should a man have more than one wife? Shouldn’t a woman be allowed to marry more than one man? probably half of them have tried on a new pair of shoes once in a while too.
In reality Polygamy is much more natural than Same sex marriage.
This is impossible.
And bestiality is not next either.
Come on Doc! Don't you know? Lowering the age of consent.
Because this country wasn’t built on that or other false principles.
Lowering the age for the "Plan B" drug regime is the first step towards that.
Good! One more available woman for me!
Hope you like your sheep or goat or whatever.
What she does is her business.
What, by giving a pile of kids who have no fathers a father?
As many as the service member can loot from whatever country we choose to attack.
Taking over the population by taking over the women is a part of warfare we have been ignoring for too long.
You kill the men and abscond with the women and any other loot you can drag home.
What a way to go though.
One of my ancestors married his 6th wife when he was 91. She was 18. Had 2 kids with her and he lived to 107. He had 22 kids total.
One wife at a time though. The other 5 died along the way.
Many "men" in this country will never mature enough to be married at the rate they are going.
Polygamy offers up lots of sex (for the man) and very little love, for the women, the children, or the family.
Depends on the man. Most these days are incapable of being a proper father to just one. Some are capable of being a father to many.
I’m not sure the Justices of the Supreme Court can logically come up with any legal reason why people who want to be married to more than one person have any less right to it then two males or two females wanting to married.
