Often, we hear liberals decry the gun violence in America.... but it is a lie. The lie is not in the actual statistics about 'gun violence', because those are accurate. The lie lies in the 'spike'.
To 'spike' a story is to not report it. Newspapers, liberally bent as they are, often spike a story that shows their liberal policies in a bad light.
So, too, do anti-gun liberals spike the part of the story that matters. They do this by focusing on GUN violence, not violence as-a-while. It does not matter HOW a person is killed, their blood still pools beneath their corpse. Anti-gun liberals seem to think that death by gun is far worse that death by knife, garrote, or baseball bat. Of course it is not; in fact, one can argue that death by means other than a firearm is even a little more ghastly and painful. As Archie Bunker famously observed, when chiding his fictional but anti-gun daughter, "Would it make you feel any better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"
So why do they focus on gun-related violence and gun-related homicides, rather than homicides in general? Because they want firearms in America to be banned. After all. civilian possession of firearms may thwart their communist, fascist, and socialist plans.
America leads the world in gun-related homicides, but trails half the world in overall homicides. The numbers from the UN -- no friend of civilian firearm possession -- bear that out. Looking at the actual statistics for all homicides in the world, not just gun-related homicides, one quickly observes that we rank 103rd out of 207 nations in the world in homicides. Recent statistics are available; The UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) compiled the information in 2011. We can see quickly that the United States was almost exactly halfway down the list, with a homicide rate of 4.8 per 100,000 citizens. You are less likely to be killed in America by a factor of 19 times, as compared to nation that possesses the homicide rate, Honduras, who has a rate of 91.2 homicides per 100,000 people. Most of the deadliest countries to live in are in Africa, the Caribbean, and South America. Even Greenland, a nation one would naturally assume to be peaceful, had a rate of 19 homicides per 100,000, making it nearly four times riskier to live in than America.
Mexico, and certainly North Korea, strictly ban all guns in civilian possession... yet they had murder rates of 23.7 and 15.2 per 100,000, respectively. This shows them to be very dangerous places to live, as opposed to the firearm-saturated United States of America.
The method does not matter. What matters is the murder. However, to fetishistic hoplophobic liberals, death by gun is far worse. We have already discussed why.
The next time you see an antigunner decrying 'American levels of gun violence', confront them -- via text or voice -- and inform them that America is much less homicidal than half the countries in the world. Ask them why the qualifier of GUN to the term HOMICIDES is necessary. Ask them to care enough to care about all homicides, then direct them to Africa, or South America, or the Caribbean -- where they can do some real good.
And them inform them that the term 'Gun Violence' is a linguistic loophole -- and that you aim to close that loophole once and for all.

Also remove the drug and turf related FUA (feral urban animal) murders, and we live in one of the safest countries that has EVER existed!
BTW, I can understand why you — at first glance — would have thought I was cutting up. The title looks, with a quick scan only, like something an antigunner would write. That was intentional... only when you got into the article, would you see the linguistic twist I employed on their chicanery.
Bump!
Our ideological opponents are not interested in honest discussion of issues. Orwell was a prophet in so many ways. We have so many examples to choose from, and the dishonesty inherent in “gun violence” is near or at the top of the list.
I know. This observation, and the subsequent techniques to defuse the 'loophole', is not intended to convince them. It is intended to remove a linguistic tool they employ, and it is intended to show the lower information voter the skullduggery employed on the anti's part.
Now, I gotta be added to your ping list after that delectable, dictionary-necessitating descriptor.
What’s perhaps most ironic of all about the overall US statistics is that gun violence is highest in areas where the gun laws are the most restrictive. Places like Chicago, for example.
Perhaps, my friend, and well-observed .... but that would have been outside the scope of my editorial. I was concentrating on the defusing of the term “Gun Violence”.
And here I am using the term. :)
BAAAD little monkey. :)
LOL great picture!
"Gun Violence" is simply a euphemism that the hoplophobes use for gun ownership. If you read the press releases, simply substitute the term, and it all makes sense. When they say they want to reduce "violence" they really mean "ownership."
Tryin to get this darned thing noticed!
Very informative, dear Laz, thank you!
As a prosecutor. I tried eight homicide cases. Cause of death in those cases:
Blunt force trauma: 1
Knife: 5
Gunshot: 2
I think we should ban knives.
Great job, my darling friend!
I’m not sure that the zottee is still lurking, but here’s hoping that he is.
Sorry. Didn’t notice. You’re too subtle, most times....
One of my favorite things about FR is that little guy.
Been a long time since you introduced ‘im...
