NAANTALI, Finland Russian President Vladimir Putin bluntly rejected U.S. pleas to turn over National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden on Tuesday, saying he is free to travel wherever he wants and insisting that Russian security agencies haven't contacted him.
Snowden is in the transit zone of a Moscow airport and has not passed through Russian immigration, Putin said, meaning he is not technically in Russia.
...
A high-ranking Ecuadorean official told The Associated Press that Russia and Ecuador were discussing where Snowden could go, saying the process could take days. He also said Ecuador's ambassador to Moscow had not seen or spoken to Snowden. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

The old KGB is going to be sweating over Obama and Kerry. No.
I think Putin knows most of our citizenry does not trust Obama.
I hope Snowden has more proof to release in of how corrupt this government is. The leadership repubs are too weak and are co-conspirators.
Barack Obama and the United States are two different entities.
When the Russian Republic harbors an American spy who has broken US laws, this is a matter that concerns the United States.
and when we have no extradition then we don’t give threats and you know though you won;t admit it that if the shoe was on the other foot then you would be saying screw you .
We spy on them they spy on us and our Govt spies on us, the first two have been going for decades so this is not new
Russia does not have an extradition treaty with us, so who were they to threaten us over Viktor Bout?
Every statement you utter begins with the assumption that Russia is saintly and the US is evil.
I don't accept that assumption as either correct or rational.
and again how would you feel if Russian made those threats like Kerry and the other goons
As I pointed out, Russia has already made more aggressive threats over Viktor Bout.
How does that make me "feel"?
It makes me "feel" that Russia has absolutely nothing to complain about.
you’re still fighting the cold war.
Why not?
and you know though you won;t admit it that if the shoe was on the other foot then you would be saying screw you
I certainly will admit it, and here's why: I prefer the United States to Russia.
I think my country is better than their country.
We spy on them they spy on us
So?
and our Govt spies on us
And their government spies on them.
That has no bearing on whether the US is free to demand that Snowden be turned over.
It is free to make such a demand whether you or Putin like it or not.
Do you really think that Vladimir Putin's geopolitical goals are different now from the ones he worked for when he was a KGB supervisor of the Stasi in Berlin?
Could you be that naive?
we don’t give threats when we can’t back them up and as for if Russia were to give threats you’d be singing a different tune.
You have a problem with Snowden and want Obama to get his man ,OK.
I think Putin does what is good for Russian, and obama does what is good for him and his lefty pals who keep calling Snowden a traitor , oh yea like spying on us all which you seem not to upset with
I think differently.
and obama does what is good for him and his lefty pals who keep calling Snowden a traitor
Snowden is, objectively, a traitor.
President Obama and his associates may have their own subjective reasons for thinking of him that way.
That doesn't make a person who rationally examines Snowden's actions a "lefty pal" of Barack Obama.
yea like spying on us all which you seem not to upset with
I'm not happy about it, nor have I been happy about it. But Snowden's information here is not particularly new or surprising - we are well acquainted with the practice of warrantless wiretaps, the TSA etc.
Everyone seems to overlook the fact that Snowden provided the government of China with independent verification that we have been spying on the government of China.
That is information that has nothing to do with US civil rights or the civil rights of anyone in the world.
It was a gift from Snowden to a dictatorship.
then we disagree
What is an indisputable fact is that Snowden provided the PRC with verifiable evidence that the US was spying on the PRC electronically.
That is objectively an act of treason under any known standard.
He did, but I have to question whether he actually hurt out national interests by doing it. The PRC basically owns the Clintons - they're bought and paid for. I have to assume anything Hillary is authorized to know about, they already knew about before Snowden.
OK I’ll bite , so what did he give away besides what this Govt is doing like spying on us all and targeting those who they disagree with
HRC has not, to my knowledge, provided the PRC with externally verifiable proof of US intelligence activity against it that it could use as evidence in the court of world opinion.
Even if she had, two wrongs still do not make a right.
thought you would never come back with the info
well DUH, of course that is true, Hell I love it when some can get their panties in a twist over China spying on us,
The problem is our Govt spying on us
She and Bill didn't take any externally verifiable campaign money from PRC front companies and individuals, either. Over 100 Chinese nationals that were subpoened by Congress fled to China before they could testify about it. The Chinese government then said they were unable to locate any of them.
It is not the obvious fact of China spying on us.
It is Snowden spying on us for China.
