President Obama pressed ahead Tuesday with his climate change agenda, calling for new regulations on coal-fired power plants and setting a strict condition for the approval of the controversial Keystone pipeline.
"We need to act," Obama said, in an address at Georgetown University.
Even before he spoke, the president's proposal drew condemnation from the coal industry and lawmakers whose states rely on that industry for jobs.
Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, a Republican from West Virginia, said the proposal "could deliver an unrecoverable blow to coal-rich states" like hers.
But Obama claimed climate change is having "profound impacts" on the planet and must be addressed. He called for the U.S. to lead the world in a "coordinated assault" on the issue.
Going around Congress and unveiling what was likely to be his most controversial plank, Obama said he was ordering the Environmental Protection Agency to create the first-ever carbon emissions limits for existing power plants.

If ten years ago someone told me a jug eared Kenyan would be running the USA I would have laughed him out of the room.
Obama vowed that his administration will only approve the multi-billion-dollar pipeline if this project does not significantly exacerbate the problem of carbon pollution.

in March, the State Department concluded that the Keystone XL pipeline was unlikely to cause major changes in the amount of carbon emissions tied to the development of Canadas oil sands crude...
The latter would incite some real action right quick.
In Jan 08 the most savvy political guy I know told me "no way the American people are going to vote in a guy named Baraq Hussein as POTUS 7 years after the 9/11 attacks.
Homes occupied by 0bama voters that are supplied by coal-fired power stations should be immediately brought offline.
Less coal means less rail traffic which means increasing transportation costs which means increases in the prices consumers pay for products, plus the Obama electricity rate hike to consumer. This guy is gonna put us all in the poor house. What a joke of a president, but then he’s the least qualified of any president to hold that office.
Someone remind me when we elected a dictator, please.
From where does the Current Occupant of the White Hut derive the authority to set these rules? Is this not subject to some kind of challenge? If not, why not, and if so, why is nobody standing up and saying so?
The economy of this country is a delicate balancing act of the need for adequate supplies and communication between those who produce, and those who consume, and very often, individuals wear both hats.
This is a vast interruption of the flow of supplies, and a determined effort to shut off communication. There is no real wealth but that which is created through the focused application of energy, and exchanges of particular goods and services either needed or desired, for other different goods and services either needed or desired.
Artificial scarcities are as wicked as a complete denial of justice, and spring from the same source - a misguided and poor application of the art of distribution, aimed at “conserving” the supply of goods and services, even when there is no need. Either through economic incentives (the function of higher prices is to ENCOURAGE more people go enter production of particular goods or services, then the market finds its own level between supply and demand), or through planning done from top down, a command economy, where the degree of “profit” or “loss” is defined out of existence.
Command economies only work under threat of the application of force. If the force falters, for any reason, the economy collapses.
No way to run a railroad.
Now would be a good time to try and turn Manchin and Rockefeller into Republicans, go hard after Menendez and try to even up the Senate.
Then impeach the Commie.
I was thinking the same back then. I was amazed when he beat Hillary Clinton but that was the RATS and Obama had a better organization
You’re are so right.
This phony, idiot, mystery muslim commie is a parasite. He’s been sucking on a tit since he was hatched.
Wise Freepers taught me that the Chicago political mob used blackmail about Arkancides to intimidate the Clintons.
BJ and Hill couldn’t use their vaunted private detective operation (Palladino and Assoc) to expose the truth about Obama.
Let the gestapo central socialist government wade in a wage war on West (by God) Virginia miners!
I agree... the cities would suffer most... but...
the cities are what keep giving us communists in power.
Obama cuts 19 slurry bomber last year for western fires much of which may be started by al-Qaida. He really does not care about anything out of his agenda.
Just by their very nature, people living on top of each other, more single unattached men and women, cities are where socialists feel more comfortable. Voting maps (obviously) also show rural and ex-urban and suburban counties having more conservative voters
Defund the EPA then.
In the OT, God told his people to STAY OUT OF THE CITIES!
Jefferson had a nice quote about that as well -
“I view great cities as pestilential to the morals, the health, and the liberties of man.”
What!?!? To prove a point, Congress should defend everything related to the EPA except power, phone, and internet.
If they care so much about the environment they should be willing to work for free, just like volunteers who clean up actual trash along the rivers. Right?
