BOSTON (AP) -- An NHL-record unbeaten streak to start the lockout-shortened season.
Three straight victories to clinch the title.
From beginning to end, the Chicago Blackhawks skated away from the rest of the league.
Bryan Bickell and Dave Bolland scored 17 seconds apart in the final minutes and the Blackhawks rallied to win Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final 3-2 on Monday night to clinch their second NHL championship in four seasons.

‘61 Hawks!!!!! Nesterenko, Maki, Kenny W. Stash, Bobby etc. etc. etc. Geeze what a year!!! The NHL’s ‘Original 6’, (those years from 1950-1966), was it’s best era in my opinion. Then the ‘67’-’72 6 year span with the Big Bad Bruin’s Espo and Bobby Orr, the hated Habs, (Especially that monster John Ferguson, remember when he picked a fight with Hull when Bobby had a mask on for a broken jaw, ‘69 or so?), at the front bringing in expansion.
That last 1 1/2 mins realllllly bummed me out.
Well done, Hawks!!
Yep. Remember them well!
Oh, I remember most all those Hawks from the ‘60s and early ‘70s: Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Pierre Pilote, Eric Nesterenko, Glenn Hall, Red Hay, Phil Esposito (yes, first on the Hawks), Doug Mohns, Kenny Wharram, Chico Maki, Pat Stapleton, Tony Esposito, Dennis Hull, Keith Magnuson, Lou Angotti, Jim Pappin, Pit Martin, Coach Billy Reay, broadcaster Lloyd Pettit. . . . I’m sure I’m leaving some guys out.
I think Bobby Hull might still be the most exciting athlete I've ever seen. The speed on his rushes, the power on his slap shots!
I saw a TV show a few months back, (not sure when it was taped), where they dedicated a statue(s)? of Bobby and Stash in Chicago. It was very well done event. Okay, off to YouTube now to look at old Orr, Hull, Phil Espo, Howe, Mikita videos!!! Sigh...
I don’t think anyone expected the wings to battle the hawks the way they did. Had it not been for a strike shortened season(that could have very easily been canceled altogether)good chance the wings don’t even make the playoffs this year. The younger guys got to experience playoff style hockey, and hopefully learned something from that experience. That said, great finals...the games I watched hawks were definitely the better team with their speed to the puck, skill on filling in passing lanes on defense...Bruins(like the Wings)gave them a good battle...better team came out on top. Congrat’s to the Hawks...great season(abbreviated or otherwise).
Hey, in 40 years there are gonna be guys looking back on these Hawks teams with fond memories! “Remember Kaner, what a magician he was on the ice? Toews, what a tough gamer he was? . . .”
The Wings played the Hawks as tough as anybody. They really gave the Hawks everything they could handle.
Oh yes, nobody expected Detroit to perform that well- including the Hawks. Very good hockey indeed.
Oh yeah, ‘The Pest’ Watson!!! Coincidence I’m sure but I was just looking at a old SPORT Mag. (I have an almost complete SPORT Mag. collection I started collecting WAY back!!! SI also. SI carried those Janzen Sportswear adds then. Jerry West, Hull, Cousy, Hornung etc. flown off to some paradise to model swimsuits, what a way to make a living!!!), where the article was about those who ‘shadowed’ Bobby. Most were on the record as not liking it one bit as they were hamstrung offensively and did not get to shoot the puck much and Bobby was very generous to most of ‘em, (”They just gotta job to do”). Then there was that Ferguson........Damn I still get pissed off even thinking about him. Then ‘71 and that blown 7th game against the hated Canadians! SON OF A BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The series was everything I thought it would be. And the result I hoped for!!
I think I remember that fight. Bobby had been getting hit all game long and finally had had enough. They started circling and they both dropped their gloves. Bobby put his fists up like John L. Sullivan. I had never seen him do that ever. The other guy threw one looping overhead punch and Bobby caught it, pulled them man down on his back on the ice and pummeled him. The refs just stood back and let them have at it too.
When it looked like the man was really clobbered, the refs pulled Bobby off him and their was a huge grin on his face as he smiled with his tooth gapped mouth. They other guy was a mess.
I don't think I'll ever forget that fight.
Let’s not forget Keith Magnusson.
I liked watching the guys the Black Hawks traded for Pit Martin, Gille Marotte and Jack Norris.
After the heartbreak of 1971 and 1992, suffering through the Wirtz years which reached rock bottom 2003-2006, just wow. If you asked me in 2006 if there would be 2 cups in 4 years.
All I have to say is to NBC NBC SN: THE CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS ARE THE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS- Chew on that
The guy played with complete abandon. Fun to watch.
Good deal! Heck of a game.
Yes, I did. Moose Vasko, Doug Jarrett, Bill White, Matt Ravlich, Cliff Koroll. . . .
I never watched hockey at all before that stupid old man died and they finally put the Hawks on tv. Neither did my brothers (all in our 20s,), now we’re huge Hawks fans.
Awesome awesome season.
