Given the friction and financial woes facing the Girl Scouts these days, perhaps it's time for a giant friendship circle. Under that long-standing tradition, a ring of Scouts clasp hands and give a little squeeze, accompanied by a silent wish of good will.
Just a year after its centennial celebrations, the Girl Scouts of the USA finds itself in a different sort of squeeze. Its interconnected problems include declining membership and revenues, a dearth of volunteers, rifts between leadership and grassroots members, a pension plan with a $347 million deficit, and an uproar over efforts by many local councils to sell venerable summer camps.
The tangle of difficulties has prompted one congressman to request an inquiry by the House Ways and Means Committee into the pension liabilities and the sale of camps.
"I am worried that America's Girl Scouts are now selling cookies to fund pension plans instead of camping," wrote Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa, in a letter last month to the committee chairman.
Compounding the problems are tensions at GSUSA headquarters in New York, where several senior executives have quit or been ousted since Anna Maria Chavez took over as CEO in 2011. Last week, some of the roughly 325 employees there were invited to take early retirement, and Chavez said an unspecified number of layoffs were expected in August to offset the revenue losses.

Girl Scouts Planned Parenthood ConnectionPlanned Parenthood has taken marketing to a whole new level. They are now scouting Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts are directly affiliated with Planned Parenthood, our country’s largest abortion provider. Planned Parenthood put out a brochure entitled “Healthy, Happy and Hot.” This brochure was distributed to thousands and thousands of Girl Scouts. The intended audience is girls aged 8-16. Here are a few excerpts from the brochure.

There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!”
“Improve your sex life by getting to know your own body. Play with yourself! Masturbation is a great way to find out more about your body and what you find sexually stimulating. Don’t stop there: find out how your partner’s body works, what makes them feel good and what gives them pleasure. Talking with your partner about what you each like and what feels good is the best way to have great sex.”
“Your skin is the largest erogenous zone on your body, and your mind plays a big role in your desire for sex and sexual pleasure. Caress and lick your partner’s skin. Explore your partner’s body with your hands and mouth. Mix things up by using different kinds of touch from very soft to hard. Talk about or act out your fantasies. Talk dirty to them. Tickle, tease and make them feel good.”
Financial woes cannot come soon enough for this group.
Only the sickest, most evil of humans could come up with something like this for children.
The ruling class elite have their agenda, and the "grassroot members" need to STFU.

Mommas don’t want their babies to grow up to be Girl Scouts. At least not the left wing feminist, lesbian mob that the Girl Scouts have become. How can that be? But, not to worry, the Boy Scouts are quickly catching up.
Well there are still freepers subjecting their kids to GS/BSA and looking for excuses to justify it and have people tell them their decision is OK. Oh and having fits when called on it.

Anyone here that has their kids in these groups has no excuse. No Freeper can seriously claim ignorance.They know what they are and subject their kids to it anyway. Yet we wonder why the right makes no headway in the culture war. How can we when we are all too quick to provide new young recruits to the left from our very children?

My wife and I thank you for passing that on.
We now want the Girl Scout’s pension plan to tank more than our desire for cookies, so we are not planning on buying any more until this kind of crud is formally repudiated and stopped at the national level.
I will pass this on to others.
What’s a lesser evil? How does that impact the matter? The Greatest Evil, Satan, wants us to lose ourselves in cynicism so that we won’t actually attack his stronghold... that would require HOPE! A hope which is poured out by the oceanful from the Lord. Oh don’t pay that rascally Lord any attention, He’s just a flash in the pan /SARC!!
Non-profit status has become a joke.
Either nonprofits should be all-volunteer with no paid staff at all—or for-profit organizations should share the same tax-exempt status.
I’m fine with either reform.
