Bill Maher offered one of the rare public defenses of embattled celebrity chef Paula Deen on Friday, asking why we always have to make people go away for saying bad words.
Bill Maher Defends Paula Deen After Firing: Do We Always Have to Make People Go Away? AP
Deen was dropped by the Food Network following her public apology after it emerged this week that she had admitted to using the n-word in the past.
Im just wondering, Maher began on his HBO show Real Time, if youre 66 years old and you were raised in Georgia and you were a child before the civil rights movement, do you get a bit of a pass
No members of his panel cut in.
or you say no, youve had 40 years to get used to I agree, Maher said. But he added a few moments later, I also think people shouldnt have to lose their shows and go away when they do something bad.
Its just a word, its a wrong word, shes wrong to use it, but do we always have to make people go away? Maher asked.
The panel again disagreed, with former New York Times columnist Bob Herbert saying, For me that word is the line nobody should be using that word.
Maher asked whether we should ban rap records and said that in America, youve gotta be a free country, even to be an ahole.
(See my post #38, D1.)
Maher and the vulgarians of the Left have a license to impugn, slander, and threaten conservatives with impunity. Palin and Tim Tebow in particular have been victimized -- and even openly threatened. It's Open Season on Christians in the America mostly founder BY Christians. The Media and "Entertainment" outlets are leading their satanic crusade.
There was some kind of altercation involving some Mahwah police and NJ Troopers where the cops claimed self defense. Also there’s an ongoing lawsuit they filed against Ford, allegedly when Ford had an assembly plant in Mahwah they used an area of the Ramapo Mtns as an illegal dumping ground
Now you did it I officially can't stop laughing. Good one! Can I use it?
Yes, please use that description of grievance groups. It sure seems that liberals judge people and situations based on what group people fit into, and what grievances, real or imagined, that these groups have.
She didn't say that word on TV. She said it in a joke that a white worker heard so no black person was involved. She is 66 and grew up in Georgia where that word was used back then and she admitted she said that word to her husband one time in those days when she was attacked by a black person.
If I had been attacked, I surely might use that word when I got home, just like she did.
My mother grew up in the 1800s in Arkansas and that word was the only word they used in those days and she never stopped identifying blacks in any other way. It was just an English word she used for identification. I heard that word during all my growing up and I never used the word just because I don't know why. I think I used colored in those earlier days of my live. Then, at some point, the word colored changed maybe to African American. Then, black was used.
Since my mother didn't know another word to use, I guess she should have been sent to prison.
I don't give a flip which word is used and it's too bad about Paula - they should not have fired her.
I agree. Your posts are both good. Maher and the Left do as they please, not as they say...
It is moments like this, which give me a small degree of hope, for our future.
Right now, America is in the grip of a monopolistic bunch of self-serving media dolts.
Less so than it used to be, but still the media is a force - and since they are not in the middle of the road politically, they are a force against good.
Currently the media operates in lockstep. Observe the nightly news shows. The three of them, on “networks” for example. All are identical.
The same crews, all cover the exact same handful of stories, night after night. Just as bad is that local networks also cover another same handful of stories.
Not only that, but they cover the handful of stories, with the same SLANT. National and local.
Now with Fox, there is a shard of balance, but still our media operates as one gigantic thought.
To the extent outsiders are ever more excluded - the circle actually served by the news, shrinks ever smaller.
In this case, Maher is absolutely right.
He’s usually so wrong, so as to render his view somewhat moot. But on this he’s right.
Good job just this once, Maher.
The political correctness furies will hound her where ever she goes because she exercised her first amendment right to free speech on something she said many many years ago, when freedom of speech was still allowed in the land.

Here’s the problem.
In any society or race, there are always idiots. In the U.S. that’s about half.
Since the negro race only comprises about 10% of the population in the U.S., that means there are many more white idiots than there are black idiots.
And of course the MSM refused to clarify that “niggerhead” is the NAME OF A FLOWER! But then I suppose “Indian Blanket,” “Indian Paintbrush,” and “Indian Mallow” are all racist, too.
So theses guys would have long term employment.
Thanks priceless stuff.
Maher makes sense but only because a fellow liberal (in this case, Paula Deen) is being skewered.
Remember Tracy Morgan?
Pet peeve of mine—the guy talked about STABBING HIS SON TO DEATH if the child were homosexual—and after a shaking finger talking down by Tina Fey, all was forgotten and forgiven.
Let ONE conservative say what Tracy Morgan said (they wouldn’t because that isn’t how they think), and hellfire from the media would rain down on them forevermore.
I was raised in the South before and during the civil rights era. My father very carefully instructed me in proper comportment, to include the knowledge that the use of certain words to attack or insult someone would result in severe repercussions. The first, was to be a thorough washing of the mouth with soap. He meant it. Without question. He then proceeded to tell me those words, and their meaning. Ms. Dean obviously didn’t listen to her daddy.
Now they are going after her restaurants in Las Vegas, her publisher [she has a new book coming out] and her main restaurant in Savannah.
Making threats of violence against children or anyone for that matter, is a crime. False charges are also a serious crime. Both of these characters should have gotten prison for these crimes but blacks know that they will not be prosecuted when they commit crimes against whites. But say the N word—oh, horror of horrors! Set up an international human rights commission.
Paula Deen campaigned for those commies?? Ugh...
I read on previous blogs, Paula Deen also supported Obummer’s run for the presidency. So methinks liberal leanings for sure. So, the “n” word is hurtful...we do have freedom of speech...lots of ethnicities/religions (Polish, Jews, Mexicans, etc.) suffer joking, sometimes malicious, but the old adage, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but names can never hurt me” should apply. When did we all get so thin skinned? I’ve never been a Paula Deen fan, too hokey for me, BUT I think she got the bum’s rush here.
i’d love to see the look on the face of those little “white but wanna be black kids”, that use the accent and mannerisms of black because they thinks its cool, and they think they’re feelin the luv.
then, one day, in their coolness, they’ll use the nword, and lose a job or something, and they’ll have that stupid public school look on their face as if to say “hey homie, its all good”
