Back when all this was going on, I did a little surfing and tried to see just what SGK was doing.
I went to their site and honestly, the only thing I took away from it was fund raising. I saw no indications of how much, where they were funding anything with respect to breast cancer research. Plenty of stuff about how to donate, but nothing substantive about where those funds went.
I did find various links that gave the salaries of the primary officers - hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for more than a decade back.
SGK claimed they were only funding awareness and testing services at Planned Parenthood, yet at the time of the claim, not one PP location had a mammogram machine.
They spend the majority of their time collecting money with heart tugs and “Three Days” (which they separate out from SGK using threeday.org or similar with nothing said about SGK that I could see on the site, now).
In my opinion, it is just another ripoff scam organization whose sole business is raising cash.
Komen was simply the last of a long line of “non-profit” advocacy groups that became a major industry unto itself and lost sight of its original mandate. It happens all the time, and it’s amazing how much money can be made in these “non-profit” groups.
