A panel of scientists and legal experts appointed by the government has drawn up a recommendation that will form the basis of new guidelines for Japan's world-leading embryonic research.
There is widespread support in Japan for research that has raised red flags in other countries. Scientists plan to introduce a human stem cell into the embryo of an animal most likely a pig to create what is termed a "chimeric embryo" that can be implanted into an animal's womb.
That will then grow into a perfect human organ, a kidney or even a heart, as the host animal matures.
When the adult creature is slaughtered, the organ will then be harvested and transplanted into a human with a malfunctioning organ.

They’ll let u live as long as you’re still useful to them. Obammacare.
Coming next, conversely: Animal organs can be grown in humans.
Pretty impressive. Now if they could just get something to grow a Leslie we'd be in for some serious blues.
You can eat wear animals’ organs, eat animals’ organs, but transplant human organs -— the horror.
When I read the title, I already assumed it was occurring with m()zzies and their goats.
Let me get this straight.
They want to grow human organs in animals.
They want to kill developing human beings growing in human beings.
Is that correct?
That was my thought process exactly...
And both come under the heading of being smarter than the rest of us...
One thing about it... Muslims aren’t going to participate in the program they’ve described....
That will then grow into a perfect human organ, a kidney or even a heart, as the host animal matures.
Sounds like a great plan.
A pig can easily carry a litter of 10 piglets. That means 10 organs per litter.
This could be a very profitable enterprise not counting the salable meat generated by the pig when slaughtered.
The only drawback I see is that ideally the stem cell for the organ would come from the end user. But often the organ recipient does not have the10 months to wait for an organ to mature in a pig.
But it will make things much easier for a great many people who can wait.
Indeed. I'd also like to see a Dumble.
well, only until they can make it legal to grow humans to produce organs for other humans.
I think the plan was to make the cells without the protein surface markers, this way an organ can go into any person with out worrying about being rejected. This way you don’t grow organs for each individual person and there will always be a supply.
And after the surgery, the docs and surgical staff can have a big barbeque.
So swine flu wasn’t infective or fatal enough fast enough?
Generic organs; seems like a perfect solution to the organ donor shortage if it can be done.
I couldn’t get a good sinus rhythm on my organ...
The P waves were way off.
I suspect in time we’ll be able to grow these inside the host body that needs the organ. That’s the way to go IMO.
I’ve seen an ear grown on the back of a mouse. I’m not sure a womb is necessarily needed.
It would be cool if somewhere in the abdominal cavity, an organ could be grown, then transplanted to the proper location.
In would be more interesting if in time the organ could be grown up stream from the failing organ, so all you would have to do in time, is cut out the faulty one.
