PORTLAND, Ore - The Oregonian announced on Thursday that it will cut down home delivery and put more emphasis on its digital product, slashing some jobs in the process.

Home delivery will be cut to Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, plus a trimmed down Saturday edition. The three regular editions will be beefed up versions of the current product, while the Saturday edition will heavily emphasize sports, along with some news and classified advertising.

You would think one of these would catch the vision of a balance in the news. I guess they all would rather go under.

I recall as a child the Friday after Thanksgiving edition of the Oregonian - 2” thick!

I also remember the Oregonian having front page photos of Yasser Arafat with this caption:

Terrorist Arafat

Times have changed...

Liberal journalists bravely standing on the deck of their sinking ship newspapers telling everyone they are looking forward to a refreshing dip in the ocean.

Wow... that brings back old memories.

When I was 10 and 11 years old I had two paper routes. I delivered the Oregonian and the Portland Reporter.

Yep. Dropped my subscription about 8 years ago - got tired of the slanted news and I didn’t have a birdcage.

I guess Lars can’t call it the daily dead fish wrapper anymore.

Maybe the Koch brothers could buy it.

Back in the day I was fascinated by everything that went into the making of a city daily paper. Everything from the reporters investigating in the field to the paste-up to the presses to the network of hauling trucks and delivery people.

But while the medium was being overtaken by better things, the creative talent worsened right when it should have been getting better.

It is over and they just won't admit it to themselves.

Television is next.

What a horrid rag. They reap what they sow. I used to have a subscription to the whOregonian as well, but dropped it in 2004 because the Bush Derangement Syndrome was ridiculous. (not to mention they continue to abet Portland’s taxpayer-money-wasting transit expansion with almost no oversight). They sat on Goldschmidt’s pedophilia for YEARS all the while he and his cronies were raking in millions from light-rail projects.

After I called and cancelled my subscription, they kept sending me the paper for *free* just to keep padding their circulation numbers to justify their high ad prices. I finally called them and said I didn’t even want to get it for free anymore.

The other trick they used to pad their numbers was to give away thousands of papers at sporting events across the street from their building at PGE Park/Jeld-Wen Field.

Their editorial page has always been socialist in its bent (written by millionaires).

It’s funny to read the comments from liberals who think the paper has failed because of its “hard right turn” the last few years. What a joke.
