Citing intimidating reaction from opponents, a gun-owners group said Thursday it has shelved its intention to gather at Twin Cities neighborhood family events with their weapons in full view.
The gun owners meet-up events, in which the promoters suggested that so-called concealed-carry permit holders carry their handguns openly, came as a surprise to some city officials and organizers of the Open Streets neighborhood gatherings.
Shelley Leeson, the gun groups director, explained that she called off the meet-ups because people kind of freaked out and didnt understand that we were just meeting up. It wasnt trying to be some sort of demonstration. ... I understand the concerns, but I think they are truly unwarranted.
Leeson, 51, of northeast Minneapolis, said she was concerned about putting her fellow members in a situation where they would be intimidated by opponents who went online in recent days and threatened to get in our face at the gatherings. She pointed to one persons threat to bring a bullhorn and stand next to us.

From what I'm hearing, social media (Homey don't play that) is all abuzz about what is going to happen to any gun owner that shows up. Typical. What irritates me about this particular gun owners group (I'm not a member) is that they felt it necessary to ANNOUNCE their intentions to carry openly in advance. Stupi. If the is an event that you wish to attend, then, by all means go. Carry your gun. Or don't.

Bad-deal, now they know that you're intimidated into leaving aside your guns.
I’m sure that some folks would be intimidated. Some.
get in our face
isn’t that what Hussein told his minions to do?
Exactly.
That's an intimidation factor.
So Leeson just surrendered. Really, really stupid move.
Yup.
Sounds like a potential for some really bad publicity.
Not in Minnesota. It is a permit to carry a pistol. “on or about one’s clothing or person.” The word “conceal” doesn’t appear anywhere in the statute.
End of story.
I think it depends on state specifics. Certainly any CCW owner who lives in an "open carry legal" state certainly should NOT be violating any law by carrying openly.
Bingo! It’s a concealed carry rally... Not an open carry extravaganza.
Same in Georgia.
Nope. It was to be an open-carry gathering of like-minded folks in a public place. Perfectly legal and perfectly normal.
IMHO, the gun group should go anyway. As individuals. Open carrying.
Legal to open carry here in MN.
People who are afraid to exercise our civil rights don’t still have them.
Nailed it.
Check the punctuation rules on that period you just used. MN law indicates that open carry is legal when you have a concealed carry permit.
