The time for climate action is now
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 20, 2013 | Editorial

Posted on 06/20/2013 7:35:25 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Early predictions made by climate scientists — back when much of the nation was still dubious about any kind of greenhouse effect and many denied it existed — are coming true even more quickly than expected.

...And that's worth remembering when President Obama releases his expected proposal for reducing the carbon footprint, which will almost surely include new restrictions for coal-burning plants, the biggest emitters of greenhouse gases. Adjusting to climate change will require clear thinking and significant investment, but if the nation sticks its collective head in the sand, it will find that sand covered by rising seas.

isl iek tryign to claim that two folks pissign in the ocean causes the ocean to significantly wamr up

I guess that depends on where you are standing...

In reality, though, as far as climate megatrends go, we're just along for the ride.

science is SUPPOSED to work liek so- make a prediction based on known facts (ie: the earth is wamrer, CO2 levels are higher, therefore CO2 MIGHT be causing higher global temperatures- let’s investigate)-

BUT- when the ivnestigation doesn’t jive with the prediction, the theory either needs to be dropped, or other variables need to be investigated (ie: as the globe warms naturally, more clouds begin to form, which trap more heat o nthe surface, which raises overall temperatures more) then when it’;s foudn that this DOES coincide with htep rediction, following the prediction to it;s conclusion, one finds that this goes in cycles, and that it WILL reverse naturally, and CO2 levels will begin to declien again AFTER the earth begins to cool- and that there is no evidence that man’s scant contribution has effected the climatei n any way shape or form because hte data does NOT support the prediction because tempratures have NOT risen in almost 2 decades DESPITE the icnreasing output of CO2 by man which STILL only amounts to a scant .004% of total atmospheric CO2 levels

This is how science is SUPPOSED to work- instead what we see is the a wild unsubstantiated ‘claim of fact’ that man is causing global warming, and a declaration that ‘the debate is over- the science is settled (DESPITE the FACT that the science CONTRADICTS that asinine unscientific claim that the science is settled in favor of man caused global warming), aqnd therefore the president needs to ram through cliamte change fiens and taxes via executive order (since he can’t win the argument that man is causing global warming because hte science does NOT support his criminal desires)

[[I guess that depends on where you are standing...]]

Not sure where a person stands has anythign to do with it- the pee takes o nthe temp of ocean almost instantly and does nothign to warm the whole ocean- however, man caused global wamring alarmists are tryign to say that 0.004% contribution by man is enough to change the whole globes temperature for 1000’s of years- and in my last post I said despite hteir beign NO warmign sicne 1989, DESPITE the fact that we’ve raised total CO2 output from 0.003% to 0.004%, the data does not jive with hte alarmists false claims

"The time for climate action is now"

I agree. It was 45 degrees and raining here this morning. I'm going into my backyard to burn a few tires.

Fro anyoen that is interested, there ism ore evidence here at Marc Morano’s site than you can shake a hockey stick at (He used to assist James Inhoffe i nthe senate regardign climate change and provign man isn’t the casue)- He has REAMS of evidence from actual scientists disproving man is the cause of cliamte changep- scientists i nthe top of their fields, all over the world- scientists that the ldeft ignores because these scientists speak the truth

Al Gore assured us in his movie that due to CO2 from man the global climate would substantially warm and melt the ice caps which then would cause sea levels to rise and inundate coastal areas in the US. Al Gore recently purchased a $9 million seaside villa in Montecito, California. Now if you sincerely believed that sea levels are rising why would you buy a seaside mansion? Note Gore's villa has neither solar panels nor windmills and reportedly consumes more energy than an entire working class neighborhood. Gore is a hypocrite and a charlatan who pushes a global warming cult that he himself doesn't believe just for money.

I fully agree on the global warming issue, but if you happen to be standing in the water nearby, you feel the heat.

As for our government, they've been telling us that's warm rain for far too long.

I was once asked this question by a lib... “Do you think that human existence on earth today has ANY effect at all on the climate?”

It was a trick question and I knew it. The answer is yes (City scapes, asphalt, heat generated by energy, man-made lakes, etc.). So I answered with another question.... “Do you deny that I am also able to lower global sea levels with a 5-gallon bucket and some physical effort?”

Simply citing the proven laws of physics, my extraction of 5 gallons of water from the ocean certainly does effect average global sea levels. Problem is, it is so infinitesimal, it can’t even be measured. The liberal would scream, “Prove that you lowered the sea levels!” But they won’t accept that same argument when we ask them to prove man’s historical effect on any climate change. It can’t be measured or proven.

they are goign right along with hte left on this issue

Actually they have held off on this issue for 5 years.

Cap and trade was one of the things investors were most afraid of when Obama came in. Still hasn't happened and a lot of that is due to the GOP.

exactly- that’s actually a great example with hte pail-

The ‘man-caused’ global warming liars claim our infintesimally small amount of contribution to CO2 to the global atmosphere is causing ‘dramatic changes to the climate’ is liek saying that taking a 5 gallon bucket of water fro mthe ocean every 100 years is ‘drastically depletign hte oceans of trhe world’, and ‘we must act now to stop this wanton depletion by taxing everyone who has a 5 gallon bucket’

Not sure how much woudl have to be taken out to = 0.004% of gthe ocean- however, we nkow that environmental effects eplace what we woudl take out, just as environmental effects regulater what little CO2 we contribute to atrmosphere

The lairs claim it;s like pouring water into a glass, that eventually if you pour enough 0.004% of liquid into that glass, it will eventually overrun the edges (emaning that we supposedly will coem to ap oint where our atmosphere is so chock full of CO2 due to our yealy scant contribution that nothign can survive- however, we nkow nature handles ALL the co2 naturally keepign htings in balance with mild swiongs oen way or the other for periods of time)- the claim that we are ‘ovrloading nature’s ability to handle CO2 is nonsense-

[[Actually they have held off on this issue for 5 years.]]

Obama just came out and declared he is goign to use executive privilege/orders to bypass congress- We’ll see how the GOP reacts although I already suspect I nkow how- The only reason this issue has been held off on is bweccause dear leader didn’t weant to hurt his chances at reelection- now that his next 4 years is secure, he can stick it to the peopel and laugh at them when they can’t afford the ghigh prices for energy any logner-

and quite frankly, the GOP has NOT staved it off- dear leader has been queitely passing backdoor ‘carbon taxes’ by stricter industrial emissions regulations, tougher restrictions for appliances, higher pricesw for gasoline and heating oil, (preventign more oil refineries here in the US- or making it so restrictive it isn’t profitable for companies to pursue), higher electric costs, higher food prices, more destructive requirements for gasoline (higher ethanol amounts in gas), on and on it goes- He isw killing us with a 1000 paper cuts and the GOP is not stopping it- they may win a battle or two- however, we’re beign overwhelmed by unconstitutional laws, unethical price rates, less product for more money etc- our government is STEALING ourm oney through all these backdoor prices increases that they couldn’t have doen if they had presented them as ‘carbon taxes’ outright

Cap and trade is happening- just not under the name of cap and trade- Even your new microwaves are goign to be mroe expensive because now the govenrment has levied a tax on them for ‘constributing to global wamring’ because of hteir energy use- Everythign we buy was made usign energy, and when energy is used, it is and will continue to be taxed more heavily thnaks to the backdoor cap and trade effort by our ‘leader’ who is ghell bent on partying for 8 years while at the same time destroyign this coutnry fro mthe foudnatiosn up

Yes, Obama is issuing the orders piecemeal but a bill through congress would have been far worse.

Why? Because EO's can be rescinded. Congressional legislation would have been a much more effective way to go for the left but Congress thankfully stood against it and will continue to do so.

BTW...what they really wanted was cap and trade where the whole economy changes through buying and selling carbon credits. This cannot happen through EO's. Thank God.

I saw a video where one bunch of nuts claimed that the sea levels on the East coast of the US are rising “four times as fast” as the levels on the rest of the oceans. I’m no geologist but I don’t think that is actually possible. My globe shows all the major oceans to be connected. I have not heard an explanation of how one section can rise four times as fast as the rest and I cannot think of a way for this to happen.
