Limbaugh Rips GOP For Being ‘Embarrassed’ Of Base: ‘Republican Party Hanging By A Thread’

On Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh revisited his earlier remark about the Republican Party being embarrassed of its base. In an argument pegged off the immigration reform debate, Limbaugh said the GOP is hanging by a thread, willing to sacrifice a few more elections due to losing its base.
People have said the country is hanging by a thread, Limbaugh noted. Well so is the party. The Republican Party is hanging by a thread.
Some do realize it, he added, pointing to the idea that theyre embarrassed of their base and wouldnt mind at all if the base left the Republican Party, even if it meant losing a couple of elections. Its either embarrassment or dislike, he said, describing the caricature of the gun-toting, shotgun-shooting, tobacco-spitting crowd.
They wouldnt be bothered if that crowd that makes up the base left them, the radio host reiterated. But theres one problem with that: Who will make up for them? If they think the Gang of Eight immigration bill will pick up the slack, Limbaugh said, they have got another thing coming.
You cannot out-liberal a liberal, he stated emphatically.

The Left has succeeded in planting enough RINO's in the Republican Party that the Conservative base (and Principled Republicans who see through their Voting Records just what they don't represent), that the Conservative Ideals are long-gone.
If you vote for the RINO; you lose. If you vote for a 3rd Party or Independent; you lose. Democrats will control the Majority now for the rest of your lifetime, as the Amnesty will take care of that.
Fend for yourself, protect your family, and do what you must, but be assured, America is gone.

Whatta laugh. I actually know allegedly intelligent libs with that stereotype embedded in their brains.
Unfortunately it seems to be the same stereotype carried in the brains (sic) of the RINO’s in Congress.

He was right in December of 2011 too.
Rush Goes On the Record with Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren (2011)
The Republican Party is trying to do something in this primary that is unprecedented. They're trying to split the conservative vote and win the primary with a moderate, with Romney. It's the other way around. You consolidate your base and then you move to the center in the general. The Republican establishment has decided they don't want any part of conservatism. And this is really not new. People are surprised to hear this, but the Republican Party formative event with conservatism is Goldwater's landslide defeat. That's what they think of when they think conservative. They don't think Reagan. They think Goldwater.
They believe what the inside-the-Beltway philosophy is about conservatives. They're racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe, Southern hayseed hicks. They're pro-lifers. They're embarrassing to have to go to the convention with them. And they're just embarrassed to have those kind of people in the party. They're dumb. They're not erudite. They're not educated in Ivy League schools. We'll take their votes on election day, but we really don't want to hang around with them. We don't want anybody in Washington thinking that we're really that close to them and aligned with them. So in the process -- you know, it's a very sophisticated electorate. The Republican primary voter can sense that the Republican Party really doesn't like them, really doesn't want them, thinks that they are the route to defeat. That's the problem in a nutshell. The Republican establishment thinks that a conservative nominee is the route to defeat because they think Goldwater landslides are going to happen because they believe what the popular misconception the left has created of conservatives -- they think everybody thinks that.

Some blend of Conservative-Libertarian-Populist seems to be a more comfortable ...maybe I could toss Agrarian into the mix....
Now, I have it CLAP. I sure would like to applaud our leadership but they seem to screw me on a daily basis.
Need to work on it some more since Bush-the-wannabe-brother has staked-out CHIRPER.

From what I’ve been able to discern, even Goldwater wasn’t all that conservative. My reading indicates that he saw no place/role for Christians in the Republican party.

When you say "radical right" today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican party and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye.
-Barry Goldwater In a 1994 interview with the Washington Post.
I happen to agree.

It was a bit surprising to hear Charles Krauthammer come out in strong support of the Tea Party tonight on Fox - usually he seems to be with the Respectable Right who find any person or group who speak out forcefully for what they believe embarrassing and troublesome, but Charles actually seemed to be pulling for a reconciliation and accommodation by the mainstream Republicans and the Tea Partiers......
To: drewh
Limbaugh has woke up in the last year or two to what really is going on. I’d say half or more republican politicians not only don’t care, they don’t understand conservative principles.
Iow, they are pos politicians. Stupid by definition.

The Tea Party could become a real political party... might be time. We can vote Tea Party first... GOP second. Hopefully the day will come when every GOP candidate is running against a Tea Party candidate in the primaries...

Krauthammer would seem, to have done the right thing.
The GOP had two entire runs at the presidency, with two complete RINO candidates. Both lost badly. McCain first moved boldly to appoint Palin as his VP - but then as soon as she was on board, he ran a stupid race.
Last time was just as bad.
Enough. The GOP won’t get that chance again.
Either the RINO’s move to the right, to get back onto the GOP’s correct spot, or the GOP will form a new party.
No more messing around.

” My reading indicates that he [Goldwater] saw no place/role for Christians in the Republican party.”
I do not understand your comment. Why should any specific religion be important to a political party?
The original founding of the Republican Party in the 1850s specifically rejected social issues from their platform.

The party is toast. It died when Reagan finished his second term. Anthony Wiener could beat whoever the RNC Elite put up in 2016.

The moderates have been attacking the ghost of Goldwater for years. Even Ann Coulter insinuated that he was a racist a while back over his opposition to the civil rights act as was passed. Unfortunately he was absolutely correct in his assessment that the civil rights act went too far and would invade the rights of every private businessman in the country.
He supported an earlier less invasive version of the civil rights act, supported a limited affirmative action, and was a founding member of the NAACP in Arizona.
Personally I think America would be in a far better place today if the “moderate” purists hadn’t actively tried to destroy him rather than vote for him. I doubt the democrats would have been able to re enslave blacks the way they did.
