The West Virginia eighth-grader who was suspended and arrested in late April after he refused to remove a t-shirt supporting the National Rifle Association appeared in court this week and was formally charged with obstructing an officer.
As CBS affiliate WTRF reports, 14-year-old Jared Marcum now faces a $500 fine and a maximum of one year in prison.
The boys father, Allen Lardieri, is not pleased.
Me, Im more of a fighter and so is Jared and eventually were going to get through this, Lardieri told WTRF. I dont think it should have ever gotten this far.
Every aspect of this is just totally wrong, Lardieri added. He has no background of anything criminal up until now and it just seems like nobody wants to admit theyre wrong.
Officials at Logan Middle School in Logan County, West Va. maintain that Marcum, who has since completed eighth grade, was suspended for one day because he caused a disruption after a teacher asked him to remove a shirt emblazoned with a hunting rifle and the statement protect your right.
She said, Are you supposed to wear that in school? Marcum had previously explained in an interview with local station, WOWK-TV. I said, I dont see why I shouldnt.

I should hope that the NRA is stepping forward with the expenses this family is incurring...........after all, his shirt was advertising them.
You would think more Americans would be upset about our losses of freedoms, but most are too wrapped up in nonsensical things to even give a hoot. When they do wake up it will be too late.
“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers — and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system.”

The educator class in this country is attacking any mention of guns and creating an atmosphere to ensure that children are indoctrinated to fear guns. They tell us that this will ensure that children do not ever want to use a gun.
Now consider that these same folks promote the teaching of sex, natural and perverted sex, to children of younger and younger ages. In my opinion, this hypocracy is an admission that the educator class is filled with perverts!
(FReeper educators excepted of course.)
gestapo. is there any doubt it’s them against us now?
Increasingly I am of the mindset that some of these school administrators need a good ol fashioned ass kicking to adjust their attitudes.
The swine "teaching" in the public skool systems are avowed STALINISTS.
I had the unfortunate displeasure of going on a date with one, ONCE.
They are mentally ill, and they are as dangerous as Josef Stalin's "education" agents.
Recommend homeschooling or Christian schools to the sane folks out there.
The mentally unstable and criminal types can keep the publik skools.
Once more, class...the lesson here is: “the police are not your friends.”
Someone needs to retain a lawyer.
I’d demand a jury trial, for sure and I’d think that the NRA or other gun rights groups would make themselves available to fight for this boy.
At least make the school district suffer some legal costs. Maybe next time they’ll think twice before calling police over such a trivial thing as a T-shirt with a message they don’t like.
I can’t believe what is happening in our country. This situation screams for a fight. Make it public. Publish addresses and phone numbers. Pull a trick out of the progressive bag.
Barry Sotero will be along any second to say the police behaved stupidly , right?
“We need to do this in twos- show up with a NRA t-shirt AND a rainbow gay pride t-shirt.”
I wonder if the pro second amendment gay group “Pink Pistols” sells shirts. That could really mess them up.
Why are people still using these institutions for their children? I wouldn’t send my dog to a public school.
