Edward Snowden blames Obama By: Tal Kopan June 17, 2013 11:39 AM EDT

NSA leaker Edward Snowden criticized President Barack Obama for empty promises in an online Q-and-A on Monday, saying the president’s alleged failings influenced his decision to release the secret information on surveillance.

“Obama’s campaign promises and election gave me faith that he would lead us toward fixing the problems he outlined in his quest for votes. Many Americans felt similarly. Unfortunately, shortly after assuming power, he closed the door on investigating systemic violations of law, deepened and expanded several abusive programs, and refused to spend the political capital to end the kind of human rights violations like we see in Guantanamo, where men still sit without charge,” Snowden said in a response to a question from a commenter on The Guardian’s website.

Snowden was responding to this question: “Why did you wait to release the documents if you said you wanted to tell the world about the NSA programs since before Obama became president?”

Snowden also said the U.S. would not be able to silence him.

“All I can say right now is the US Government is not going to be able to cover this up by jailing or murdering me. Truth is coming, and it cannot be stopped,” Snowden said when asked by Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald what would happen to the information he possessed if something happened to him.

He defended his decision to flee to Hong Kong, claiming the U.S. government did what he expected when the story came out and ruined his chance of a fair trial.

“First, the US Government, just as they did with other whistleblowers, immediately and predictably destroyed any possibility of a fair trial at home....

LOL, I can imagine what. I’m pretty sure it’s something I’ve been called before at some point. :)

I assume most husbands have been called that at some point in time during a marriage. If not their marriage lacks passion. Either that or they are not married to a woman of Irish descent.

I’ve never been married, but girlfriends have called me some lovely names before. I’m of Irish descent, and have had a girlfriend of the same...dangerous. :)

Not enough info yet on this guy, but so far I agree.

Still waiting more damaging revelations...Of course we expect a tsunami of negative .guv/MSM campaigning that turns this guy into Benedict Arnold. But the damage is done and cat out of the bag. Distrust of the regime is reaching an all-time high....seemingly.

Odd question: DID 0dingaInc. purposely allow him to data-dump in order to produce paranoia? Is this a psy-ops game? OR...was it legit .guv sloppiness and revelation from a guy who claimed he was doing his patriotic duty? (just throwing that out there.) Your opinion?

4. Its entirely possible the CIA and NSA are at odds, with the CIA taking the larger world view on spying on terrorists, a la the Patriot Act. The NSA, with a wink/nod from the White House, takes it further and rolls in American citizens. You now have two agencies with two completely opposite agendas. This is straight out of a Vince Flynn novel.

Interesting theory.

Snowden blames Obama, but I still insist on blamin Bush because that strategy works every time for low info. voters.

Gotta tell ya, Tex -- Hussein is as we all know a Trojan Horse Commie, Muslim, and anti-American subversive....

THAT said, George W. Bush failed to batten down the hatches at the Mexican border and secure it when he and the GOP Congress had the chance over 10 years ago when had it been part of his agenda, legislation WOULD have passed. He also inexplicably and ostensibly invited the Illegal Invasion to continue unabated during his "War on Terror" while restricting the Border Patrol from exercising their mission. "BLAME"?? He's no 0dinga but he deserves his fair share of the crisis we're now facing today.

” A hint: that level of clearance requires a year or more to obtain. “ yes , true but sometimes it takes years as I was told.

Yes, he's either CIA, a government plant, or working for the KGB.... there is no way he could have gotten a security clearance with the NSA only on a G.E.D. and the short amount of time he supposedly got it.

Yes the Anti-Christ will have that kind of effect on people where people will be fooled into believing that he will be doing it for their own good and he loves them... a false Messiah.

Precisely

CIA has had Petraous removed and second in command moved to the WH where he can be watched

NSA is under control of DOJ /holder/ Obama as CiC

If KGB wanted to take him out they have other methods

CIA could not openly oppose 0 without being charged with attempting a coup BUT a free lance individual placed under cover of an independent company is a more likely person to bring damaging material forward.

Expect that to happen while he’s in Africa

Only if he was using this situation to establish a cover to infiltrate an opposing agency There would be easier ways with less attention. Don’t know that any other agency would trust him

Otoh. When there was mention CIA could make a person disappear. Didn’t think he was referring to killing. Surgical change of appearance (sex) new papers. New identity New life Ed Snowden disappears.

Otoh he has stated his death and/ or disappearance will not stop what’s coming out.

Sorry, but I still think Edward Snowden did something that needed to be done. He has revealed the depth and breadth of surveillance whose use depends on some very iffy controls. Our lives, freedoms, and republic are seriously at risk. I don't have to agree with everything Mr. Snowden says or does to acknowledge that he is a man of courage and considerable wisdom. Freedom from unwarranted searches is basic.

Regardless of all the hype, this supposed leak, did nudge the US public awareness of pervasive privacy intrusion, by a subtle means. Just sayin’. Got a whole lot of other issues, off the boards. All at once. Hecky Durn.

Miss Alabama said that she feels safer when the government listens in to her phone calls. I would expect this answer from Miss Massachusetts, but Miss Alabama?

I don’t know what is the more worrisome. That she actually believes what she just said or the PC is so bad that she feels she has to say this to win the pageant.

Most beauty pageant contestants are not celebrated for their ability to think. That's why they are in beauty pageants, and not out getting a normal job or starting their own business.

And 38% of Alabama did vote for Obama, so it was bound to happen that an Obama fan would slip through the pageant system.
