Cheney says NSA monitoring could have prevented 9/11
NBC News ^ | June 16, 2013 | Michael O'Brien

The United States might have been able to prevent the deadly Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington had controversial National Security Agency surveillance practices been in place at the time, former Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday.

The former No. 2 in the Bush administration defended the NSA's ability to monitor phone and email data, and labeled as a "traitor" the analyst who has admitted to having leaked details about the classified program.

Yes, I’m amazed that Cheney is being thrown under the bus here at FR. But I’m in agreement with the bus throwers. Too much wool has been pulled over too many eyes in the name of party politics. Every single candidate from both parties has to be examined closely for their commitment to freedom. As in FREE Republic.

Defense contractors have been under serious squeeze and oversight for 40 years.

Demands are huge and profit margins are low.

We can’t make a terlit seat without 5,000 screaming idiots demanding that it warm yer butt at 50,000 ft and be bullet proof.

Then the same people scream that it cost $500

There is a truth in that, and forming the DHS was a mistake.

Now the entire country is being cordoned off.

Impossible to believe any government that has fully allowed open-borders for year after year (and now even wants to reward the lawbreakers!) has even the slightest interest in national “security.”

I have long argued that if the PEOPLE would take responsibility for governing themselves, a lot of this BS would go away.

Got a problem with the neighbor?
Handle it.

When you call someone else to fight your battles you may end up seriously dissapointed and impotent.

Cheney is a traitor if he agrees that the Constitution demands American citizens should live under unlimited domestic spying. That’s just flat out un-American.

Snowden had to choose between loyalty to the intel community or to the American way,, so he came down on the side of freedom. I wish him well.

agreed. Many of the talk radio guys, who I normally agree with, are so un-worried about this. They basically say, “make us safe, this will do that”. They are taking huge heat about it from callers.. I am referring to Dennis Prager and Michael Medved.

I am with Rush L on this... It all depends on who is in charge. With something so powerful, can we simply just hope for the best ? And leave it to the guy in charge, who may be a tyrant, as our current Prez is? We might get lucky for 8 years and have a Prez who would not use this program in nefarious ways, only to get the next guy who will use it to destroy.

Cheney worked for honorable men. He is a fool to think that therefore, all leaders are honorable. He needs to dust off his copy of “All the Kings Men’....

take a look at again, Dick.

I’m glad Dick Cheney said this. The left hates the man. And the more comfort the NSA finds in the arms of people both the left and right despise, the more people turn against them.

Keep talking, Dick! Keep talking, Feinstein! Keep talking, Bush and Obama!

When some ahole in DC is in charge of the border in Tx, the border becomes lawless.

When The guy living on the border takes responsibility, things are better.

The border is wide open largely because quite frankly our voice has been lost to the cacophony coming from non border states.

nor did it stop Major Hassan who was actually in jihadi open email correspondence with Al Awlaki the Al Qeida recruiter.

Cheney is showing his deep proud Bush wing GOPe roots. Anyway, in before the Cheney worshipers arrive to tell us how he is almost Chuck Norris.

“I really never expected to see Dick Cheney thrown under the bus here on FR”

LMAO. Come back to earth. Dick “deficits don’t matter” Cheney is the father of all RINOS.

He single handedly destroyed the Bush presidency, destroyed the Reagan coalition and gave us 8 years of Obama. You still think it’s a good idea to sacrifice American lives to bring democracy to the middle east? Cheney is no conservative. And he also supports gay marriage, btw.

Decided to look into Cheney’s background, education, etc. a few months ago. I was surprised at what I found.

Cheney is just a lucky schlub who fell into a good government job and made the most of it. Cheney was singularly unqualified for all of the government jobs he’s held.

Time for Dickie to stay out of politics. His advice and counsel isn’t worth a dime.

It didn’t prevent a commie rock sucker into the White Hut.

It sure didn’t. And Cheney and bush had the intelligence on the bastard. They knew all about him and did nothing.

KMA, Cheney.

Here is a disgusting video where Cheney admits he was the DIRECTOR of the anti-American Council on Foreign Relations and then laughs about how he kept it secret from his rube constituents. WATCH

The government didn't need the NSA to catch the 9/11 hijackers. The FBI, CIA, and Able Danger already knew about them and were tracking them. In fact, Atta and the other hijackers trained at U.S. military installations including the Defense Language School in Monterrey, CA. as explained by Colonel Anthony Schaffer

Cheney is just trying to justifiy the police state apparatus he and el Presidente Bush created.

Cheney knew all about Obama and did nothing to stop him. The only thing I saw Cheney do was give Obama a dirty look at the inauguration.

Mrs. Kravitz didn’t have yottabytes of storage, hundreds of programmers to write data analysis programs and an ‘in’ with local gangs and drug runners.

Was the Stasi in East Germany wrong?

Clearly the PEOPLE haven’t had the POWER in this case. The POWER is grossly one sided.

“Did the Russians notify the Bush administration or the Soetoro administration in March and September of 2011?”

Nope, no word that they knew. But the CIA knew who they were and tracked them around the world, right up to the American border. But they were forbidden from notifying INS or the FBI.

But if only we could have read every Americans emails, then we could let them in and see what they were doing here! Of course, the answer is that we already had all the intel we needed pre911, but our government, including Cheney would rather spy on Americans, than to upset moslems.
