New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie declined an invitation to attend a major gathering of social conservatives this week in Washington, opting instead to make a high-profile appearance at a forum organized by former President Bill Clinton in Chicago.
Christie's decision was hardly a bombshell: Up for re-election in November in a Democratic-leaning state, the governor can hardly afford to be seen courting Christian conservatives and sharing a stage with divisive figures like Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain.
But his absence was a sore point for many conservative activists who traveled to the Faith and Freedom Coalition's "Road to Majority" conference to see a bumper crop of GOP stars, including would-be presidential candidates like Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
But there is harder evidence that Christie has problems with Republicans outside of New Jersey. A Gallup poll released earlier this month pegged Christie's approval rating among national Republicans at just 58 percent, and almost a quarter of Republicans view him unfavorably.

I'm sorry, that's simply not believable........
Not "what is the matter" WHO? are the 58%? I think they are manufactured and don't exist! Christy not only 'consorted' what he did would make homos blush!
Rubio and Christie are being set up by the RNC to run in 2016 to put the 'Beast in office. I don't know who is being blackmailed, threatened, paid off etc.in the GOP!
No amount of work will get my vote.
[[has repair work to do with conservatives]]
Can’t repair traitor- He made his bed- now let him lie with their liars on thel eft-
[[Is he going to be set up to be the Republican nominee, to make sure Hillary wins in 2016?]]
No- He’s goiong to be nomionated by the GOP so that no matter who wins., a liberal will be in the office for antoehr 8 years-
Too Late, Christie’s platform has collapsed.
Who was the bonehead that invited him to speak at a “conservative” gathering? That outfit is off my list.
“The guy who says hes fiscally conservative but not concerned with the moral issues that plague our country.... is just a guy who is tight with his money”
+1000
Christie is just another northeastern Democrat with an R next to his name. “Repair” also implies there is something left to fix, and in his case, not the slightest molecule remains.
Yes, the old mansion needs a bit of work.
Social Liberalism and Fiscal Conservatism cannot co-exist...Social Liberalism ultimately results in the growth of the State.
agree
The last time anyone ever heard the term "Maverick" was likely November 3, 2008 after over 4 years of front page news........
You can’t fix stupid.
The MSM would be ecstatic over a Hillary/NJ Fatboy ticket.
They would wear out the term “bipartisan” by labor day.
Christie has work to do to become a conservative
Yea, I know, impossible.
The two are not--and have never been--the same thing.
As far as this Conservative is concerned, Christie can't "fix it", it's far too broken.
Anything said from here to a POTUS run to the contrary is just more placating the Conservatives, just like so many others who do not hesitate to throw Conservatives under the bus at the first opportunity, sometimes as soon as they get the nomination.
Fuhgeddaboutit.
Next!
Christie is a POS, fat assed (bigger than Moosechell’s) never Republican of the loser state know as New Jersey. Christie will become a lot of rendered fat in hell.
