The UN is about to go to war for the first time in its history after the Security Council voted unanimously to intervene to fight rebels in the Congo.
Around 3,000 UN troops wearing the blue insignia, are being deployed to the central African nation which has been wracked by years of civil war and lawlessness.
The UN has led a 14-year-long peacekeeping in a bid to end the ethic conflict which was sparked by the genocide in neighbouring Rwanda when thousands of Hutus fled into the Congo to evade justice.

It will be the first time that the UN itself will be in direct control of a fighting force, responsible for the tactics on the ground, troop deployments and air strikes.
The force will be made up of soldiers from South Africa, Tanzania and Malawi and is under the command of Brazilian general Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz, who is credited with dismantling criminal gangs in Haiti in 2007.
It will be deployed against M23 (March 23) rebels in the east of the country.

The UN prepares to go to war for the first time, with a 3,000-strong task force sent to fight rebels in the Congo
Wasn’t Korea technically a UN op?
Third World Rape Brigade?
This will not end well.
Ooooh. That is going to turn out well.
Yes, but in this case the countries supplying the troops have agreed to put them in UN uniforms and giving the UN operational control. This is the first time the UN has approved an offensive force in recent history.
It would probably be a good idea to move the U. N. headquarters over the Africa. It’s so enthralled with the continent, and it should be near where it’s heart is.
I would like to officially move that the U. N. be relocated.
Any seconds...
the un is offensive. more child rapists getting a free pass.
operational control?
How many experienced generals do they have? :p
African troops under a South American general. What could go wrong?
Korea didn’t count?
3,000 troops to help win over a country as big as Texas...
shades of the early 60s all over again..

I've decided that the UN Peacekeepers and the African Union are jobs programs for third world countries. We pay them to put soldiers in each others countries. It's amazing how many countries contribute UN and AU soldiers and also have UN and AU soldiers in their country.
Watch “Hotel Rwanda” and you’ll see just how little UN troops are capable of.Read more recent headlines and you know that UN troops are certainly capable of mass rapes (central Africa) and spreading deadly to places that had never seen them before (Haiti).
Well, this ought to be interesting as hell; will the UN keep statistics on how many women their troops rape and how often they run from a fight?
“Any seconds...”
Aye; I’ll second that. Move anywhere else but NYC (or the US)...
Seconded. African nations can fund it as well.
