Yes, but in this case the countries supplying the troops have agreed to put them in UN uniforms and giving the UN operational control. This is the first time the UN has approved an offensive force in recent history.

That was the first thing that came to mind when I read the article too. However, as with most of these joint ventures, Korea was primarily a US show and US forces plus the rest were under US command.

Yes, Korea was a UN "Police action" authorized by the Security Council, on a day when the delegate from the USSR foolishly was absent. Else he would have vetoed the resolution. Instead the UN went to war.
