FBI: Hundreds Of Thousands May Lose Internet In July
TeaParty.org ^ | April 21, 2012 | AP

Posted on 06/14/2013 9:45:51 AM PDT by Bratch

For computer users, a few mouse clicks could mean the difference between staying online and losing Internet connections this summer.

Unknown to most of them, their problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of infected computers around the world. In a highly unusual response, the FBI set up a safety net months ago using government computers to prevent Internet disruptions for those infected users. But that system is to be shut down.

The FBI is encouraging users to visit a website run by its security partner, http://www.dcwg.org , that will inform them whether they're infected and explain how to fix the problem. After July 9, infected users won't be able to connect to the Internet.

I say...if they are as good as they think they are, and this is legit, they would be sending an email saying “you are infected”.

Of course, it’s also a slick way to load a key logger...Let the target do it for you.

I’ll take my chances with the hackers.

And, BTW, to the NSA folks reading this... Pound Sand!

Been getting a lot of calls from an Indian "Fix your PC" service lately. Me and my wife have a game going seeing how long we can keep the poor bastards on the line, without them realizing we sure aren't gonna give them access.

I wasn't that patient. After I asked him for the third time what the point of the call was and what he was trying to sell me, he said, "Sir, we're not selling anything. This is an awareness call to PC users in your town of [whatever]." At that point I decided I had better things to do than jerk the poor guy around.

I am not going to that website to download anything.

In the event there’s access to someone’s computer.

Remember how the teacher got into the kids computers/camera and microphone. I have back ups that would let me know if I have a virus.

I believe that the FBI are going to use more scare tactics in a vein attempt
to keep the STAZI control center in Utah online and moving forward.
The FBI may be being forced to be used by the NSA/DHS to cover the their
unConstitutional overreach.

New laws do not make unconstitutional Laws legal!!! Dammit..

Are the American public still dumb enough to fall for this tactic?

I used to be the same way, then I realized the best way to beat the telemarketers of this type is to waste their time.

These buggers are little different too. They are trying to gain access to your PC so they can hack, load trojans, and add malware.

The only sad part is that apparently there are enough naive people out there who fall for it. The longer I can contain them, the fewer victims they find.

When my kids were younger (daughter just barely talking), they used to love to talk on the phone, especially to grandma and grandpa. They didn't listen well on the phone but the talked (or babbled) at length. My wife and I would deal with telemarketers by handing my 2 year old the phone and telling them it was Grandpa, then walk away.

The thing was, my daughter would never know when the other party had hung up. She'd just keep going. In one instance, I had forgot I handed her the phone. about 10 minutes later, I noticed she was still on the phone. I assumed the telemarketer had long since given up. I took the phone from her and the sales person was still asking to talk to her mom or dad. I said, "Hello?". To which the lady asked if I was Mr. XXXXX. I said hold on and handed my daughter the phone back.

Sadly, no recorder here.

I agree. The FBI, the BATF, the NSA, the CIA, have each done their best over the last few years to destroy our ability to trust them.

I should be able to look forward to helping out the FBI if they every came to me for it. Instead I find it chilling to even come into contact with them.

This isn’t what I want. It’s the abuse of power and example after example of them doing things that aren’t right that causes this in me.

The Weaver incident at Ruby Ridge was one such incident. The burning of the children and adults at Waco is another. The Oklahoma City bombing, and the things that came out regarding that, also damaged my respect for the FBI. The downing of the Flight 800 out of New York was another. The investigation of the death of Vince Foster was another.

In instance after instance it has been clear that we were lied to. I don’t take kindly to be being lied to by an agency what wields extreme power, and seems to be acting outside the law.

I had one of these Indians really going the other night. Had him thnking I had never used a PC, and my first one was still in the box. I was asking questions, Like "What do I do with this styrofoam?", "where do the batteries go in?", "I see a screen, but where are the channel knobs"

He finally asked if was messing with him. 15 minutes later.....

ROTFL

My wife and I play the same game. Every time they call I say, “oh my, can you help me?”. Then they would tell me to do some things and I mess them up. “Press F1” Okay, I pressed the F key and the 1 key. Now what? Hey, I have a key on my keyboard that looks like a little Microsoft flag. What does it do? Am I really supposed to take a nap when my computer tells me to go into sleep mode?

Eventually they hang up.
